“Here you can see two pages pre and post editing.”

But, as far as I can tell, the two pages are entirely different pages, so how can I compare pre and post editing?

Compare the left and right side of each image.

I think Neil Thomas has rules writing nailed down. Similar principles to the above. Sometimes lacking in clarification but I think that’s mainly because (my personal opinion) other rules have gotten some complicated that a greater amount of clarification is needed to explain the principles to the reader.

Interesting subject, thanks. The new pages (on the right) are obviouly simpler and clearer!

However I think that, for example, mentioning some tactical factors (+1 etc.) in a paragraph of explanations is not always bad if it helps to understand the logic of this point of the rules system – on the condition that another document or page contains easily readable charts of all these tactical factors.

We’ll have to differ. Doing this mixes explanation and detail.

It also involves duplication (if you get it right) which doubles the work of keeping things consistent. If you get it wrong the user doesn’t know where to look for detailed factors and may even struggle to decide which of two options is right.

Right, I see it now.  You’re blog entry of “Here you can see two pages pre and post editing.”, made me think that the two separate pages were the upper and lower images, and not that the two pages to be compared were in fact in the same image.  So I was comparing upper with lower and seeing completely different pages.  Better editing might have helped me in this instance! 😉

There’s always one. I’ve changed the wording especially for those that don’t read the pages.
