I have been working on some 20mm linked trench sections made by Early War Miniatures. It has taken me a little while of soul searching to get the colours I wanted, but I think I am finally there. I’ll post better pictures on my blog in the next couple of days, but here’s a taster of the WIP:

I painted PVA on them and added sand to all the areas outside the trenches, following which, I undercoated them in the grey primer (I get if from The Range here in the UK). After that, I resprayed them in car colours, Vauxhall’s Brazil Brown (which, I discovered is very similar to Ford’s Rio Brown), then dry brushed all that heavily with Khaki. The wood in the trenches I painted in Vallejo Khaki Grey, inkwashed with Army Painter Dark Shade and finally dry brushed with Vallejo’s German Camo Beige. Finally, I add PVAed areas and added static grass. Pretty simple, but a lengthy process.

The flatness of these pieces really gives the impression that they are below ground and I think they are the best on the market. Having said that, I haven’t seen the Martian Front ones…

Oh and some day I plan to make a blue/pink foam board and have the trenches dug in.
27/03/2015 at 16:42 #20697AbwehrschlachtParticipantYeah, my long term plan was also to make a proper trench board, with below surface features, but these will suffice until that day!
