    Hi all,

I’m after a little help. I want to make a chess set using 28mm figures. The problem is that I don’t know enough about the 7YW/FIW manufacturers to be able to pick what I need.

I’m obviously after line troops/indians as pawns, cavalrymen as knights, something as bishops, and a general and a lady as queen (I plan to make the log palisades as castles), ideally with as little duplication as possible, so I’m after a company or companies that have similar sculpting styles, and sell individual or max 4 figures per pack.

What suggestions do you have for me?

You might want to look at the classic 30mm Edward Suren Willie figures. They’re sold by the piece, their sculpting style is very consistent, they cover all the bases for F&IW and the line includes one each civilian gentleman and lady sculpts that match the toy soldiers in size and style:

There are no clergy in the 18th century line, but there are probably some figures you can use for bishops somewhere in the Willie catalog – it’s ginormous.

You'll shoot your eye out, kid!

Thank you- that looks like a start. Pity there are not many pictures!

Also try Crann TARA Miniatures, his figures are of the Spanish succession period but he also sells Fife and drum Miniatures which of of a later period up AWI.

Depending on what you want, warrior Miniatures sell individual 18th century figures which would make ideal chess pieces.

    Or Elite Miniatures.

And if you’re not in a big hurry, Sash & Saber just completed a very successful FIW Kickstarter (almost five times over the goal!), and Chris is working on them now:

According to the page, they will be sold in packs of four.

If you want to go a little larger, he has an existing 40mm line. They come 20 to a bag. He does sell those individually too, but the price is higher.

Also in 40mm, there is the large range from Trident Designs:

They look nice- I need to look more closely- perhaps 40mm is the way to go!
