    First mission.

So after the marines cleared this settlement of xenos, a couple of groups of scavengers decided to come and see what sort of pay day they could get here.

Really enjoyed it. This is my first ever RPG campaign where I am actually doing RPG stuff, as opposed to just making up scenarios.

Heck of a good score for your crew!  It’ll be interesting to see if the new add accepts her new group or wrecks it from within.

Yes exactly. Might form a rivalry, or might betray them at some point. I think I will put that rule in, that she can betray them at some point.

Episode 2: Communication’s Breakdown. The next turn on my campaign. I hope to get more regular games in to try these rules more. At some point soon I intend to just buy the hardback latest edition.

Interesting.  Definitely sounds like choice of rules will dictate the feel of the game you are going for.  So which are you going with?  More gritty (as in this report) and deadly or more heroic/pulipish?

I have caved and bought the new edition of Five Parsecs which contains its own combat rules, so…I will be using whatever that ends up looking like.

I have rolled up the new character, the ship and am starting to get a mission together.

The problem I am facing is that your last game inspired me and is making me want to scrap this whole thing and start over with my Star Wars Miniatures.

If you have enough Star Wars figures for the crew and a selection of enemies and it’s what you are drawn too, then why not?

The rulebook background has Unity space being invaded by The Intruders. That could so easily be the Rebel Alliance worlds being taken over by the Empire.

“Make it so, Mr Washburn,” said Two,” let’s get the Rocinante out of here before we’re targeted by that Star Destroyer!” 😀

I already use my own setting that I use for my other Sci Fi adventures, so all it would take is renaming the figures, that isn’t the issue. And I have about 1800 of the miniatures, so that also isn’t a problem. It is more deciding to put my miniature painting and all that hard work to one side in favour of dusting off some old toys.

At the same time, I could just re-skin Five Parsecs into the Star Wars universe. I like that idea. I have like 20 maps that I could use also.

Turn 2.1 is on the blog. My first campaign turn using the newest edition of Five Parsecs from Modiphius. The crew of The Pelican fight with some pirates.

Brilliant game and a really good haul.  It can be hard to remember all of the perks each crewman has, but extra range to throwing grenades is always a good thing!  (when in doubt, grenade it out!)

I am usually wary about grenade throwing in games. It seems like where they land is completely random and you are more likely to hit your own side than the enemy most of the time. In Five Parsecs it just counts as a 2 attack weapon that can also make an attack against people within a blast range. There is no penalty for missing, you just miss.

    Whooo!!!!!! GO PELICANS!!

Love the write up. The scenery and figures look great.

Don’t worry about getting the fine detail of the rules wrong. After all it’s a solo game, as long as your opponent is enjoying it it’s all good! 🙂

I found that, two or three games in, I had the rules down to my satisfaction. Anything I’m doing wrong now isn’t a mistake it’s a house rule 😀

The crew just bought Gunner some grenades …. he’s more and more like Jayne Cobb with every game 🙂 Glad to see they were useful here.

No pressure, but I look forward to the next AAR.

    This is sage wisdom.

Thanks for the comments. After toying with the idea of using my Star Wars figures, the allure of having a game on a 1×1 square, and using all the terrain I have spent ages making/painting was too much. Star Wars can wait.

Last night I made the mistake of setting up the next mission and realised I hadn’t printed my character sheet. I couldn’t resist setting up a little scene though.

    Turn 3 – Sandstorm.

A challenging battle, with an enemy who could prove problematic.

Tough fight but the Pelicans came through with flying colours! Another nice write up.

Toughness is important but so are all the other traits.

The crew of Destiny’s Child finally have their next job (real life has been a bit busy) and are up against another bunch of Punks. I think if I get that result again I’ll re-roll until I get something tougher! Will 9 punks prove tougher than 8?

Another nice write up and a good result for your crew.

Great to see Lars able to go,”It’s just a flesh wound.”

I keep forgetting Mila scrounged some stim packs and med kits for my crew. Perhaps my opponent will remind me 😀

Really glad all of your crew survived.  For some reason using flame weapons in a non-war situation just seems so improper, sadistic even.  I’d have singled out that enemy for “special” attention…

Awesome that they are so close to financial freedom, and very interesting that their patron would follow them.  What would the advantage be to leaving the planet?

I made a point of highlighting my stims and other gear to make sure I actually used them. I was very pleased to get a chance to actually get them used. The problem I have now is, they are single use…so I don’t have anymore stims. I should probably upgrade characters to get luck?

DarkestStar, the benefit of leaving the planet comes down to rivals. The longer you are on a planet, the more likely it is you gain rivals. The ore rivals you have, the likelier you are to have to fight them. Rival battles don’t pay. So you will end up running out of cash and being stuck there, unable to pay for medical care, crew upkeep, ship debts etc.

You might also travel to a new world that is more lucrative than others. And then there is the whole narrative thing. I want mine to visit a few planets… so they will.

Another great write up! The Pelicans certainly dealt with the bad guys effectively.

So, fresh fields and pastures new next campaign turn?

Real life has been a little hectic for me but this is certainly inspiration to get Destiny’s Children into action against the assassins sooner rather than later.

I’m enjoying these write ups, keep ’em coming.

“Noticing a comrade go silent on the comms and seeing how well armed their opponents were, one of the corporate goons ran, off into the loving arms of the Apex Industries disciplinary HR system.”  <— That was honestly one of the funniest things I’ve read this week!  Good result for the crew too, can’t wait to see what new trouble they find themselves in.

I have rolled up a Quest mission against some Abandonned armed with scrap pistols. I think the next mission will be quite straight forward.

Glad Oslan made it, despite the belly hit.  That’s going to be uncomfortable for a while.  Almost too easy of a mission, seems this planet is indeed a bit more lucrative than the last, but the crew probably just peeved the planetary governor a little.  Time to watch their backs!

Link isn’t working, had to go to Turn 6 post and then proceed from there.

Good result.  For games upping the difficulty might increase the fun, but it real life I bet the crew would take easier any day!

The complex seems to have worked really well, looks smashing to boot.

Thanks a lot! I have a sheet printed up ready for the next encounter, but have been putting it off as I am busy with work and other personal stuff. My evenings seem to consist of collapsing in front of The Expanse right now. Although I guess that could technically be called research?
