Some years ago as I was working on my aerial rules on the Pacific theatre, I needed some islands in order to play above something other than a blue sea. I wanted them flat enough to be able to support the plane base without problem. I ended with plastic card covered with sand mortar. I think they looked really great.

I added one with a small airfield in the  jungle

    I also made Atoll riffs

I open this topic into the Air forum rather than Terrain and Scenics because it is really dedicated to this type of rules. Feel free to move it if you wish.

    I am inclined to agree.
The top image with the clouds too is ace.

And there are really easy to build (and cheap) with just a thin plastic card, 2 or 3mm of sand and glue to texture the ‘island’. A dark green base coat then added several dry brushing layers with lighter colours. I also added some yellow sand beaches.

    Very effective!

And it should not be difficult to add an airfield, or some ships as targets to improve a scenario.

    The airfield exists

The buildings are bits of a plastic sprue, cut, filed and painted as

    Fantastic!

These would also be great for naval games.

One thing I would suggest for the future is everywhere but the headlands, paint a thinstrip of off white beach and a bit of turqoise oloured watr for the reef. Google earth views of the Solomons would give you the idea.

They look absolutely bonza! What a great idea, and something I may have to tinker with myself.
