I found a couple of Dystopian Wars buildings of roughly the right scale to mock up a better idea of what the final product is going to be. Overall I’m pretty happy with how it’s going.

Very pretty! I like the implied worldbuilding of this project.
Manor House / hermitage. I think it works better with the building attached to the island, much cleaner.

That’s really is great.
Silly idea: you could probably used the aeroneff rules to create floating fortresses and towns that move around and prey on each other, ala “Mortal Engines” or some such.
Oh man, now I have all sorts of ideas for a nice little war, with grand armies, aerophibious invasions, and special unit skirmish actions. Very Studio Ghibli in my mind.

Not silly at all although the last thing I need is another rules system. I’m planning to try this first though! The aim is to go for a high fantasy feel with a touch of the Ghiblis about it. As my 7 year old daughter is my only available “opponent” it’ll be a coop game anyway. I’m thinking of using Warlord Games plastic frigates vs whatever else I can kitbash. Who doesn’t want join the Gnomish Space Marines?

For more inspiration, check out the video game Owlboy, in case you don’t know it. I wouldn’t quite describe it as Ghibli-esque but it’s not dissimilar either.
And don’t forget that the Brigade Models scenery range includes the Hotel Adriano from Porco Rosso.
Thanks, I’ll do that.
