ParticipantThe Fulda Gap Team Yankee Campaign has started, I and 7 others are playing in it. You can see some of my pictures and write ups on my Facebook page. 2 games out of 4 have been played with 2 more yet to be played. so far Nato (me ) has won 1 game and lost 1. But it is a long way back to the Rhine.

ParticipantKyoteblue:
Sorry that you had a setback this round but this just confirms the natural superiority of the Soviet Armed Forces and proves the inevitability of the historical dialectic which is the triumph of socialism over the decadent and corrupt engine of exploitation and war called capitalism. Comrade Gabriel clearly has learned from his initial contact with your forces and is poised to drive you back to the Rhine and beyond. If he succeeds a Hero of the Soviet Union honour awaits him. For you, only defeat or death will be your reward.
For the edification of future Soviet children, would you mind explaining what happened in this second battle?
Cheers.

ParticipantIn the other battle the Soviets got lucky and bum rushed the US line under cover of smoke, then after bogging most of their forces where able to shoot up some poor harmless VADs and M-109s . Then grabbed an objective before US reinforcements could arrive. Pictures of that game on the Team Yankee Tornado Alley Facebook page……

ParticipantKoyotsiniy:
You must be clearer in your Facebook posts. So how many battles have you personally fought to date?
Cheers.
Rod Robertson.
07/06/2016 at 01:26 #43009kyoteblue
ParticipantThere are 4 games per turn and the campaign is going 6 turns so I will hopefully get 6 games in.
07/06/2016 at 03:20 #43012Rod Robertson
ParticipantKoyotsiniy:
So, you did not answer my question. How many games have you personally played and commanded? One or two so far? Oh, and paint those T-72’s and Hinds, will you!
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantI have played one game. I won. 6-1 in FOW speak.

ParticipantKoyotsiniy:
Thanks for the clarification. Ah, so you are undefeated…… So far! Do you play in each other’s games as sub commanders or helpers?
Cheers and good gaming.
Rod Robertson.
07/06/2016 at 05:25 #43016kyoteblue
ParticipantUm we could but so far there has been no need to. Started my last 7 T-72’s this afternoon..
09/06/2016 at 20:48 #43142kyoteblue
ParticipantGot 3 of my 7 T-72’s built…4 more turrets to assemble then paint them.
10/06/2016 at 07:20 #43155Rod Robertson
ParticipantOutstanding! Then it’s on to the Hinds and, Bob’s your uncle, you’re done!
Cheers and well done, KB.
Hey, if I was to mount a 152mm gun in and oversized turret onto you, would that make you a KB-2?
Rod Robertson.
12/06/2016 at 01:23 #43241kyoteblue
ParticipantSure I would be a KB-2…….snort. All 20 T-72’s are done now. and I picked up another box of Hinds today as my FLGS was having a 20% off sale…so I’ll be building and painting 6 Hinds this next week or two…
Next campaign game is tomorrow….12/06/2016 at 03:06 #43242Rod Robertson
ParticipantKB-1:
Twenty T-72’s? That’s seriously hardcore Cold War! And 6 Hinds! Why do you need so much for tactical games? Six Hinds would normally support an entire MRR or division advance back in the day.
Good luck tomorrow but I’ll be secretly rooting for Gabriel’s Soviets. Sorry dude.
Cheers and enjoy the battle.
Rod Robertson.
12/06/2016 at 03:31 #43244kyoteblue
ParticipantI may get my butt kicked tomorrow….The Soviet High Command may give Gabriel more campaign point….
13/06/2016 at 00:47 #43257kyoteblue
ParticipantGabriel was sick so I faced Danial instead and he did have a bunch of extra points, so I did get my butt kicked 6-1 !! I should have not moved my M-1’s out of ambush to go after his Company Commander…. It Was A Trap !!!!! I’ll whip um next time.
13/06/2016 at 01:17 #43258Rod Robertson
ParticipantKyoteblue:
I am sorry you got trounced this time. Hopefully comrade Gabriel will recover to face you soon! I’ll go to FB to learn more.
Cheers.
Rod Robertson.
13/06/2016 at 01:46 #43259kyoteblue
ParticipantI didn’t get any photo’s sorry or you would see my burning M-1’s littered across West Germany…Never move out of an ambush position !!!

ParticipantKyoteblue:
So, what NATO and Soviet kit and infantry minis do you have for the Cold War? I’ve seen a wack of T-55’s and some T-72’s. I’ve also seen some BMP’s and some BTR’s. I know you have 6? 2S1 122 SP How. I have seen some Bradley M2/M3’s and have heard about some T-64’s, the A-10’s and the Cobras. You’ve mentioned the now 6 MI-24 Hinds! What else have you got? Give us a complete list in triplicate with all the proper seals, approvals and authorizations!
Cheers.

ParticipantKyoteblue:
I think you lost an opportunity to combine an arts and crafts teaching moment with a child-labour gulag. Why didn’t you get them to help you paint, terrain-make, etc? You are from the ‘No Country for Old Men’ part of the USA. You must get in touch with your inner robber-baron! They could have mowed the lawn too!
Cheers, exploitation and good gaming!
Rod Robertson.
16/06/2016 at 01:17 #43422kyoteblue
ParticipantThe girls are still to young to mow and the grand son is to lazy……but you are right I do need to mow.
16/06/2016 at 02:30 #43430Rod Robertson
ParticipantKyoteblue:
No, they need to learn how to mow and you need to paint and game. Priorities, man! If grandson is motivationally challenged, then promise to buy him his own pick-up when he can drive and then give him a 15mm technical from Old Glory Command Decision on that happy day. You’ll get free labour for years and he’ll get an important life-lesson on the promises made by the powers that be! Win, win!
Cheers.

ParticipantI will play the 3rd Team Yankee campaign game tomorrow, I will play the best Soviet commander.. he fields 12 Hinds….I hate Hinds.
26/06/2016 at 19:39 #43851Rod Robertson
ParticipantHave six Chaparral batteries just off board!
27/06/2016 at 00:27 #43856kyoteblue
ParticipantTeam Yankee does not have Chaparral units yet………so all I had where VAD’s, and I lost. Damn it.
27/06/2016 at 03:20 #43858Rod Robertson
ParticipantThat’s why I said off-board, silly. Notional SAMS!
27/06/2016 at 03:22 #43859kyoteblue
ParticipantUm they can’t shoot if they are notional….
27/06/2016 at 03:55 #43860Just Jack
ParticipantAlright, Old Man, I’m ready for you to tell me everything you know about the Team Yankee rules. I wasn’t all that interested (WWIII isn’t really that high on my list, particularly now that I already did it), but over on TMP a guy posted an Arab-Israeli War (Yom Kippur, if I recall correctly) battle report using Team Yankee, and now I’m very intrigued.
So, how do the rules work? I’ve been looking on the ‘net for rules reviews, but oddly enough, I can’t find any. I see the book is about $25, and so I’d like to hear what’s so cool about it before dropping the cash.

Jack27/06/2016 at 06:02 #43863kyoteblue
ParticipantIn a lot of ways it’s better that you have not played FOW, I’m having to unlearn WW2 FOW so I can get better at Team Yankee. It is faster and deadlier most games only last 3 turns. In fact I lost my game today on turn 4. I lost an M-1 platoon and and objective and it was game over. er my other M-1’s were bogged down and couldn’t get to the objective to contest it… Have I told you I roll a lot of 1’s
The cards with the stats help the game and can be printed off the net.
If you don’t like the rules after you buy them send them to me…..wink wink…..knowing you if you do like them you will tinker with them. You can play it in 6mm and the ranges and ground scale will look better, so you don’t have to buy 15mm stuff.
Fast and deadly…..The Boy may like them….and ya need to buy him some Cowboy Boots !!!!!27/06/2016 at 16:38 #43878Just Jack
ParticipantOkay, faster and deadlier, but how do they play? I gather they are IGO-UGO (which is okay), but I’ve seen reference to stuff like tanks bailing out, tanks bogging down, reserve units, lots of air power, special moves (‘blitzkrieg,’ or maybe that’s just normal FOW?), stuff like that. What is that stuff, how does it work?
I’m pretty close to saying hell with it and buying the rules, but as you probably saw, I just sold off two dozen sets of rules I don’t use, and I’m not eager to start a new pile. But I do like the idea of something quick and straightforward that can handle a lot of mechanized units on the table, I’d like to see what all the Team Yankee hub-ub is about, and I wouldn’t even mind being one of cool kids (playing what everybody else plays) for once 😉
Having said that, if I do this, I think my first project with it will be 3mm Arab-Israeli Wars. This should let me halve everything distance wise; my understanding is that the ‘normal’ FOW/TY table is 6′ x 4′, so I could play on a 3′ x 2′. Yes, I have a 6′ x 4′, but I really don’t like playing on it all that much, plus I have so much garbage (troops and terrain) sitting on it, with nowhere else to put it…
V/R,
Jack27/06/2016 at 18:31 #43879kyoteblue
ParticipantIt is IGO-YGO and no over watch but does have ambush, and other formation rules shoot and scoot…cross here….spearhead ect. and air both choppers and fast movers.
Yes in 3mm you could easily play on a 3 by 2 just use MM for inches
Invest in tackle boxes for storage !!!!!! And boots for the Boy !!!!!28/06/2016 at 20:15 #43930Rod Robertson
ParticipantKyoteblue:
“Pew,pew, pew!” That’s the sound of notional lasers firing a warning shot! You’re playing a table-top game with miniature models, dude. All the weapons are notional! It’s time to embrace ‘cross domain fire’, which is all the rage in military circles these days. Think outside the table!
Jack
Just use the old WRG Modern Armoured Warfare rules which are free as a PDF from WRG. It’s strait forward and produces a fun game.
http://www.wrg.me.uk/WRG.net/History/OLDWRG/Modern.pdf
Cheers all and good gaming.
