    Thanks again

    Hi Gary!

Note that I wrote “~1723” – I did not find the exact date. Maybe think of it as (1720-1725)

Friedrich Wilhelm was made an Ensign at the formation of the 1st Waldeck Battalion. This was a professional unit in the Holland Infantry, not local conscripts or some such. It was raised and owned by its proprietor, Karl August Friedrich zu Waldeck-Pyrmont, Fürst von Waldeck (Hanau 1704 – Arolsen, Hesse 1763), at that time employed as the General in Chief of the Netherlands army. So the Ensign appointment would be a real serving position (they did not even have 2nd Lieutnenants or similar at this date) I cannot see such a position going to a “boy” under the age of 17 at the youngest. Indeed he may have been already in his early twenties and may have had some prior serivce.

So, yes, at the time of his death, Friedrich Wilhelm was indeed ~70 years old.

Georg Friedrich and Friedrich Wilhelm are among the 12 “Vettern” (kinsmen heads of households) in the von Nostitz Hause Schönbrunn in 1772 (see page 47 of the “Beiträge zur Geschichte des Geschlechtes von Nostitz” linked above), about the time when each was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel, so they could not have been older than their early fifties at that time. If you play around with that list of “cousins” and do some more genealogy, you might be able to wrinkle out their exact relationships ….

    See : https://books.google.com/books?id=2tqNMHnmDqYC&pg=PA184

I want to put our Georg Friedrich and Friedrich Wilhelm with numbers 4, 5 and 8. – but I have yet to find a link.

    1. sächsischer General-Major der Infanterie Friedrich August Constantin, Graf von Nostitz und Dammitsch (1703-?, auf Damitsch und Neiderdammer) – son of Georg Sigismund von Nostitz (1671-1751, auf Dammitsch) Reichsgraf 1711
    — nephews of No. 1 – their father sächsischer General-Lieutenant der Cavallerie Geroge-Ludwig, Graf von Nostitz (1709-1758), killed at Leuthen
    — 2. Carl Friedrich Ludwig, Graf von Nostitz (1752-?, auf Gläserdorf) (K.K. wirklicher Kammerherr 1790)
    — 3. Georg August Ludwig, Graf von Nostitz (1753-?, auf Hummel) – brother of No. 2

    4. Sigismund Heinrich Otto, Freiherr von Nostitz und Ramsen (auf Hertzogswalde und Dammer)
    5. Hans Friedrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von Nostitz und Ramsen (auf Seifersdorf) – brother of No. 4
    — 8. Sigismund, Freiherr von Nostitz und Ramsen (auf Lampersdorf) – likely son of No. 4 or No. 5

    9. Johann Carl von Nostitz und Drzewiecki [or “Drezewitz”] (auf Driebitz)
    — 11. sächsischer Lieutenant und Adjudant Vincens Florian von Nostitz und Drzewiecki – likely son of No. 9
    — 12. Sigismund von Nostitz und Drzewiecki (auf Lusatice) – likely son of No. 9

    still unattached ….

    6. holländischer Obrist-Lieutenant Georg Friedrich, Freiherr von Nostitz (auf Thielau und Tzschenschkowiez)
    7. holländischer Major Friedrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von Nostitz
Should be with the Frieherren von Nostitz und Ramsen (4, 5, 8)?

    10. sächsischer Hauptman Constantin Hartwig von Nostitz (Major 1776, General-Major 1794, General-Lieutenant und Infanterie-Regiments-Chef 1802, Gouvereur Leipzig 1809)
Should be with the Von Nostitz without titles (9, 11, 12) ?

Nostitz. One of my favorite general names.

We get slapped around, but we have a good time!
