ParticipantAll,
I’ve got a hankering to play some 4th Marine Brigade actions in WWI using Pendraken 10mm minis.
Can anyone point me to a/some book(s) that is super-detailed and thorough on the above two battles? I’m looking for scenarios, so I’d really like descriptions of actions down at least to company level, with dates, times, forces committed, casualties, objectives, maps, and key terrain.
Do such books exist? If you’re aware and able to point me in the right direction I’d greatly appreciate it.

ParticipantThere is a WW1 Facebook group that would be a good place to start, and I have read AAR’s from a defunct FOW Great War site that played out two scenarios on Belleau Woods. Osprey may have some books on them but I don’t know for sure.

ParticipantTry John W Thomason The US Army 2 Div. northwest of Chateau Thierry. That is the book they recommended.

ParticipantNot much heard of it, thanks for mentioning it and remind us about it… I just tried an internet reseach with the name “Bois Belleau” in French, you get lots of answers …but probably not much info for a wargamer’s interest.
For example this page on France 3 TV regional website, with videos, probably interesting for inspiration (if nothing more accurate) although you cannot be sure everything was actually filmed there but it gives an overall an terrible impression:

ParticipantThe Marine Corp University page also has a list of books. Sorry, I can’t do links.

ParticipantThanks for asking, John, I’ll take a look.
Patrice, thanks for the link, I’ll check it out! I know after the battle the name was changed from Belleau Wood to “The Woods of the Marine Brigade.”

ParticipantWeirdly enough I have WW1 Marines and Germans painted up for FOW Great War rules that I keep meaning to solo game with but just can’t get the urge…

ParticipantI wouldn’t mind doing it in 15mm, but I’m afraid of how much it would cost once I began letting the project grow…

ParticipantHey Jack, have you done anything with this????

ParticipantI know after the battle the name was changed from Belleau Wood to “The Woods of the Marine Brigade.”
That would not be integrated in French official topography. But rather curiously there seems to have been a change in name anyway. A correct and usual French placename for such a wood would be “Le bois de Belleau” but since this battle the name “Bois Belleau” often seems to be preferred.
