As it’s 6th June, I thought I’d stick some Normandy stuff on the blog, so here are Hobart’s Funnies…

Hobart’s ‘Funnies’ – 79th Armoured Division in Normandy

Very interesting post. I’ve always been fascinated by Hobart’s funnies. But your post had some information that was new to me, which is always good ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a request, though. Can I ask you to consider changing to a responsive theme? Most of my browsing these days is on my phone. I think the Twenty Twelve theme would look similar to what you have, but it’s responsive, so works nicely on mobile devices.

    Cheers!

I might if I had any clue what that was.

Any chance of a geography or music question? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can send more details via PM if that would be useful? (probably not before Monday). Part of the day job is dealing with WordPress sites.

That’d be great, thanks!ย  I’ll then show it to IT Support (daughter). ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks like I can’t message you, I’m guessing because you’re not a supporting member? So here’s the short version. If you need more details, email me at russell-AT-russellphillips-DOT-uk

    • Log into WordPress, go to the Dashboard
    • Go to Appearance->Themes
    • If Twenty Twelve is on the list, hover over it and click Activate
    • If it isn’t, click Add new theme, search for Twenty Twelve, click Install. Once it’s installed, click Activate.

You can use any theme you like, of course. I suggested Twenty Twelve because it should be similar to what you have, but it works nicely on mobile phones.

Thanks Russell!ย  I think that even I could manage that, though my daughter would probably disagree…

If you ever have any problems with Sinclair Spectrum Ram-pack wobble, I’m your man.

I never had one of those Spectrums. My first Spectrum was a +2. My friend had a ZX-81 with a RAM pack, though ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, I was actually a posh kid with Speccy +. but that was because of years of heartache dealing with my mate’s RAM pack… ๐Ÿ˜‰

I used to work with the guy who wrote this:

Very nice guy.ย  Gave me a few surplus military books when I was young and poor.

Fantastic!ย  I used to have that book, but foolishly loaned it out.ย  IIRC, it was the only place I ever saw a picture of the deck that was added to Buffalo IIs, allowing them to carry 17pdr AT guns and trucks on top.

David Fletchers ‘Vanguard of Victory: the 79th Armoured Division also has a (? the same) photo. Page 70 in my edition.

The photo in my book has the gun facing backwards.

Not a Funny but a great photo nonetheless from http://silverhawkauthor.com/ironsides-canadian-armoured-fighting-vehicle-museums-and-monuments_268.html

I haven’t seen the RAC flash on a Centaur before! and having said that I find a whole batch http://panzerserra.blogspot.com/2013/03/centaur-cs-mk-iv-royal-marines-case.html

Bloody work computer is blocking the pics, so I’ll have a look when I get home. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah, when you look carefully they all seem to have had the red-white-red flash! ๐Ÿ™‚ In black and white photography the red just blends into the OD, leaving the white square.ย  I need to paint some on my Centaurs…
