I recently had some samples of the new 1/100th scale (15mm to those that don’t do scale) Hogs for the Slammers forces in the Slammerverse and Crucible Slammers rules. These are available in 6mm from Brigade but are upscaled in the bigger size by Ainsty.
They are – foot print wise – about the same size as a blower tank (over 100mm long) and make an impressive model. So I slopped some paint on them and did two pages on the web site: one is background detail http://www.hammers-slammers.com/slammers_hogs_1.htm and the other is how I painted them http://www.hammers-slammers.com/slammers_hogs_paint_1.htm and – within both – you’ll find links to play sheets, extra rules for artillery and all sorts of fun stuff.
Here’s the odd snap but have a look if you like what you see.13/06/2017 at 16:55 #64674Angel BarracksModerator
Loving the scuffs/wear.
I have assumed that these, like my own skimmers, have metal skirts.
Is that so?13/06/2017 at 21:21 #64694Rod RobertsonParticipant
That’s a very big gun! Really nice weathering and the bashing-up the lower hull. Nicely done.
Cheers and good gaming.

Very nice paintjob, the weathering takes it to another level 🙂

Yep the lower plenum chamber is made from steel – I had previously had a conversation with Slammers author Dave Drake about this (my original ‘skirts’ were painted in an army green) but he wanted them in bare, rusty metal (to contrast with the iridium hulls) and who am I to argue (though I still do the odd ‘replacement’ panel in green or plain new steel, for old time’s sake).
It certainly is a big gun: I agree.
And if it’s not weathered and covered in stowage I’m not playing!13/06/2017 at 23:33 #64709Thaddeus BlanchetteParticipant
Beautiful! But you forgot to file down the mold line on the barrel. I do that, too, but I don’t spend as much time painting the figs as you do. Seriously, John: if you are going to do this professional a job, then for St. Fuq’s sake, take the extra fifteen minutes and go over the figs with a file!
We get slapped around, but we have a good time!14/06/2017 at 08:11 #64742
I know – I was annoyed at that one too. what’s weird is there was one across the top of the barrel which I removed with my dremel (after drilling the barrels) and so thought “job done” and – it was only when the things were assembled and the washes brought out the faint side ones that I was puzzled. “How can something have more than one mould line?”.
I shall pass it off as the ‘joining seam’ on the barrel shroud (or some similar piffle) and punch myself later.23/06/2017 at 16:52 #65479Darkest Star GamesParticipant
Geez that’s a big gun! Bet that turret isn’t very roomy with all of that ammo! You do a pretty good paint job for an old guy! 😉

I am now guiltily wondering if the leftpondian members of the forum have completely missed the “hog’s eye” reference, and all the rightpondians are secretly thinking “Fnaaarrr!”, or whether Mr. Editor Treadaway chose the title with no thought of any entendres beyond the first, and I am alone in having the sense of humour of a nine-year-old who has been subscribing to Viz since 1989.
All the best,

@Darkest Star: yep – they are about as big as the blower tanks, no doubt to help supply internal ammo stowage (which is why I added lots of kit to the outside!). As they are a rocket Howitzer, I guess the breech and recoil space might be quite minimal but I suspect it’s still a tight squeeze in the turret, what with the crew (who mostly ride in the ammo hauler).
@John D Salt: I obviously have no idea what you are talking about. On an unrelated matter, my ownership of over a dozen Viz Annuals bears little or no bearing on the choice I may (or may not) make regarding topic titles…26/06/2017 at 19:21 #65740Darkest Star GamesParticipant
Ahhh, but see John, now you MUST have the ammo hauler to go along with them!
