I have started a loosely linked Great War campaign using FOW Great War rules backdated to 1914. I am slowly buying and painting up Minifigs and QRF/TSS 15mm figures.
The first game Brave Little Belgium was yesterday and as I thought the Germans steamrolled over the Belgians. I wanted to do a German French game but don’t have enough French to make it happen just yet. So I plan to do part of Mons in two weeks.
I can’t do links on this computer. But I did get pictures and a sorta kinda AAR on my facebook page I’m Jonathan Keepers so if you want to see it just look me up over there.
Thanks Guys !!!

13/08/2014 at 03:19 #4210kyoteblueParticipantGot a 24 pack of Minifigs French Inf. in yesterday and should receive more in the next day or so. By the time I get them painted QRF and TSS should be back from vacation and I can order more thru Scale Creep Miniatures.
I need to base up more British and German Inf.so that I can try to do part of Mons in two weeks.
More later.
13/08/2014 at 05:44 #4218NatholeonParticipantHi Jonathan
How effective were the artillery? Was it mostly firearms that did the damage?
13/08/2014 at 06:07 #4220kyoteblueParticipantBecause of the lack of staff teams I had Arty range in each turn but made the Cav recon and they lifted gone to ground and or helped the Arty range in. I also gave all field guns firing direct fire (out to 24 inches ) Shrapnel rounds that doubled the rate of fire per gun. So the two Belgian guns and the two MG’s ( oh and went back to 0 shots if moved) did most of the killing. I also gave the Belgian’s two forts as the fight was around Liege with staff teams but the Germans with Infantrie Vor ( Kinda like Avanta) kept moving up. So the Arty had to keep ranging in each turn.
In the end there were just too many Germans for the Belgians to stop.
13/08/2014 at 08:44 #4226NatholeonParticipantSounds pretty much like the way things went in real life!
Do the Germans in 1914 deserve Infantrie Vor? I don’t know that they were any more mobile than any of the other armies of the time. I think the idea of giving the French an ‘Avanti’ move would have some merit given the attaque a outrance philosophy. I was going to try that when I get my armies ready to play.
I like the shrapnel idea.
13/08/2014 at 15:52 #4264kyoteblueParticipantI’m giving the Germans Infantrie Vor for 1914 only as they had the On to Paris /Time table drilled into them. But your right about the French as well. Will add that.
13/08/2014 at 17:56 #4286kyoteblueParticipantOh and for the BEF’s mad minute (yes I know) I will give them a ROF 2 in defencive fire if unpinned or 1 if pinned but not add the plus one.
13/08/2014 at 22:14 #4333kyoteblueParticipantThe French arrived today !!! But I need more of the FOW medium bases. Always some damn thing.
13/08/2014 at 23:39 #4353CoabeousParticipantA tragic case of Belgian waffling. LOL
What happened to the Princess on with the White Horse with the Dog.
I’m guessing she was a real historical charter?
14/08/2014 at 00:02 #4357kyoteblueParticipantThat is my Grand Daughters figure she Is Cameron Princess of Belgian with her horse and dog. She likes horses and dogs so….. no harm came to her.
14/08/2014 at 00:28 #4358NatholeonParticipantMad Minute sounds perfect. Recycling Germans as in the FoW Great War rules will work well in a Mons scenario – need open flanks to work around too.
14/08/2014 at 00:47 #4359kyoteblueParticipantI plan to rate the BEF as Confident Veterans for 1914 only then drop then to Confident Conscrits for 1915-16 then Confident Trained in 1917-1918. With British Bulldog all thru.
I also plan to have the Germans out number the BEF by 2 to 1 for Mons .
Wish I was a faster painter and could get more figures done.
14/08/2014 at 02:19 #4367NatholeonParticipantI’d have a combination of conscript and veteran in 1915, some of the Old Contemptible were still around. I’d take it step by step for 1916. 1st July conscript, but by September probably trained. different units would have different ratings, it depends who you are attempting to model.
14/08/2014 at 02:44 #4371kyoteblueParticipantHuh, well that would work as well, I’m just painting the out lines of what I plan to do. I don’t worry so much about points as I don’t do tournaments any more (I’m old !!) Thanks for working on this with me !!!
14/08/2014 at 06:23 #4372NatholeonParticipantBest to focus on 1914 for the moment and take it a step at a time. I’m like you, I’m not going to bother with points either, just run with scenarios. You’ve made a great start though mate.
14/08/2014 at 06:36 #4373kyoteblueParticipantThanks and I still want to know more about your mods !!! As like I said GWSH2 is geared for 6mm.
15/08/2014 at 03:08 #4511kyoteblueParticipantEr not that there is any thing wrong with 6mm….oops.
15/08/2014 at 04:11 #4517kyoteblueParticipantGot some more British German and French based up. I should spend more time painting and less time on the computer…
17/08/2014 at 17:23 #4760CoabeousParticipantI should spend more time painting and less time on the computer…
Me To!
I’m thinking of going back over my American Infantry in the gas mask and giving them a better paint job than the quickie they got.
But so far I’ve just been playing on the computer.

21/08/2014 at 07:16 #5235kyoteblueParticipantMore French British and Germans based and primed. But I’m running out of the FOW medium bases. I have more on order at my FLGS but it could take weeks before I get them.
I should have started this project a year or so ago. I’ve also assembled two RR armored cars.
21/08/2014 at 22:35 #5383kyoteblueParticipantAll out of bases…guess I should start painting, but I’m reading Max Hastings , Catastrophe 1914 Europe goes to WAR.
21/08/2014 at 23:07 #5392SparkerParticipantAny good?

30/08/2014 at 23:19 #6536kyoteblueParticipantAnother Belgian V German game tomorrow. We will also be painting figures while playing….we play slow… I need to order some of the TSS Belgian Dog carts.
31/08/2014 at 04:11 #6545NatholeonParticipantMake sure you do a battle report KB!
31/08/2014 at 04:14 #6546kyoteblueParticipantI’ll take a note pad with me.
31/08/2014 at 04:22 #6547kyoteblueParticipantOh and Natholeon when are you going to post your mods for FOW Great War ?????
31/08/2014 at 22:00 #6644kyoteblueParticipantBrave Little Belgium suffered another defeat today. I’ll post an AAR later and maybe pictures if I can get some one to import them here…else wise they will be on my facebook page.
01/09/2014 at 04:38 #6659kyoteblueParticipantOh and 15mm goats were involved for Just Jack and War Panda..the horror….
01/09/2014 at 06:02 #6662NatholeonParticipantNo-one even asked them whether they wanted to goat to war…
Patience KB – I’m having to exert every iota of mine as my 1914 toys have not yet arrived. They were a pre-order, so not expecting them until next month.
Having said that, Mitchell’s Marauders turned up on my doorstep on Thursday and are now all put together. But I don’t have the Germans yet. I promise that as soon as I can I’ll be playtesting some mods!
01/09/2014 at 19:55 #6769kyoteblueParticipantI’ve posted photo’s on my facebook account. Just look for Jonathan Keepers, sorry I can’t post them here…My Computer is small and doesn’t like me…
Oh and when I can I’ll order some of the TSS Belgians thru Scale Creep Miniatures.
08/09/2014 at 00:45 #7502kyoteblueParticipantNo game this weekend but I have been painting horses….and Belgians…
08/09/2014 at 08:24 #7521NatholeonParticipantGreat news that you’re still painting KB! I’m still waiting for my figures to come…
08/09/2014 at 21:13 #7619kyoteblueParticipantI need to send a check off to Scale Creep Miniatures to get some of the TSS Belgians and French figures to see how well they will fit in with my Minifigs , then if I like them a bigger order in Oct. Oh and I found some 15mmish Bears….have to paint one up as a Panda…..Hint hint War Panda…and Just Jack already have the goats…
23/09/2014 at 04:46 #9186kyoteblueParticipantSorry I have not updated this in a while but I’ve been waiting on figures and not painting the ones I do have. Hope to get more done in Oct.
25/09/2014 at 08:35 #9368NatholeonParticipantHey KB. I’m still waiting too. Soon I hope!
