ParticipantLockdown has gotten me returning to abandoned, half started projects. One of which is my fantasy miniatures for Song of Blades and Heroes games. I have owned these rules for years and have never used them. Hopefully I can use them soon.

EDIT: Now that the thread title has been changed, this reply seems a bit of a non sequitur 🙂

Something inside me decided to really try and paint to a higher standard while we are in lockdown. I have also never painted steel armour so watched some tutorials to see a straightforward method for doing good looking steel. Happy with the results. I keep showing my wife and she is really good at feigning enthusiasm.

ParticipantPersonally, if I were one of those valiant slayers, I’d feel slightly more confident armed with my very own Sicarius Dracorum.
A Dragon scale shield wouldn’t go amiss either.
Fossilizing nicely.

…I never said they would win the fight against the dragon. But they can probably handle the dozen undead warriors I have knocking about somewhere.

That dragon is the bane of my life. I want to finish him before going back to work.

ParticipantBack in the summer of 2012 I visited my brother in Indiana (USA). This killed two birds with one stone: 1. I wanted to play in the largest Star Wars Miniatures event in the world, having loved that game for a few years prior. 2. I wanted to visit my brother and his wife. While there I sat in a couple of sessions of DnD and played a random new person along for this session. I had always had a passing interest in DnD, but had never pushed the button and played. Fantasy miniatures were lame. Also while there I went to Gencon where I fell in love with Pathfinder, bought a load of dice and got some paraphernalia. I was hooked. I also came across Kickstarter and the Reaper Bones project. I had spare money so went for the full Vampire package and ended up with something like 150 miniatures for $100. It was great. These arrived at the end of 2013 while I was living abroad. They sat in a box for a while until 2014 when I decided to paint up a handful of figures: a bar wench, barman, blacksmith, couple of warriors and archers. Never finished them. Never played an RPG game either since being in Indiana. The whole thing stalled. I bought some Perry Miniatures in 2015 and they went basically untouched. I painted up a dozen or so skeletons but that was it.
Then Lockdown happened. The past week I got my box of half finished fantasy miniatures out and swore I would paint some knights up. At the same time I decided to actually try and improve my painting skills.
And here we stand. Four completed experiments. I am actually quite happy with them.
More to follow. I have the rules Song of Blades and Heroes that I intend to use.
The blue guy looks better in person.

ParticipantLooking really good there. Always great to get deep into the pile and getting some hangers-on painted and done!

I have literally no idea. I did the Reaper Bones Kickstarters 1 and 2 but all of their miniatures are thrown into a big box. I have no idea about whether they have names or not. The Elf is from Kickstarter 2 and has a code 92608, the Barbarian is from Kickstarter 1, but has no other information.

I have no idea. I had to go back onto their old kickstarter pages to even get you that information.

ParticipantAll of the minis that are in Bones are also in metal, so you may want to check in the older ranges.

ParticipantI have a box with over a hundred miniatures from two kickstarter campaigns. I have painted less than a dozen of them…yet I feel the need to buy more.

MemberI liek the halfling with the bow, I don’t think any of the clothing details has the same color.
I got my Reaper Bones order, and man they are smaller than I thought. Maybe I’m too used to seeing GW heroic minis.

ParticipantI love a good thread resurrect. I have perhaps a couple of other fantasy miniatures, which I have painted, but to be honest it has been a while.
Here are a few that I just finished now.

ParticipantNeat goblin set – I can see why the one eyed one is your favourite 🙂
If you want a none RPG RPG (I know – that reads odd) then have a look at 4 against darkness by Ganesha – lots of supplement settings and fine to play solo till you can get a full RPG going. There is even a kobold based one and goblin pirates!

That is an interesting looking book. It says it is not a miniatures game. Does it involve any kind of map? Or is it entirely pen and paper + imagination?

ParticipantThe rooms are set in shape to make the area – you can buy them (here) or draw your own.
The first few minutes of this YouTube video will show you how the map gets drawn but basically dice roll selects the room type / shape from a limited set.

ParticipantAfter a drought I put some paint on some more miniatures.
Quite chuffed with these guys to be honest. Considering how little I actually manage to paint, I am pleased with how they have turned out.

ParticipantThey came out great. I like the much more realistic proportions of the figures as compared to some others that scale that are over-muscled looking.
