I wish I were better at painting, better at scratch building, better at getting on with gaming, better at a great number of things.
But the thing I would like to improve the most, is the speed at which I paint, I am sooo slow…

What would you like to be better at?

I wish I were better at texturing/painting/flocking bases. After all the effort I put into painting* the figures, I really ought to make more effort on the bases, but I just can’t be bothered.

*Truth is I haven’t even painted much for several years – my last couple of armies I paid someone else.

For years my basing efforts were very primitive, but then I discovered a certain manufacturer’s “basing system”.  Very easy to use and to my mind it gives very good results.

    Finding time.

I’m fairly happy with what I can do if given the time but I never seem to find enough time.

    I am perfectly satisfied.

Before that comes across as sounding too smug, I am well aware of my hobby defects. However, over the years, there has always been incremental improvement in painting/basing/terrain building etc . And, most importantly, I’m in the hobby to enjoy myself , not wear a hair shirt…..sorry, Grizz. That is a shirt you’re wearing, right?

I wish…I could get organized to shampoo the carpet in my game/work/library room, that my cats have repeatedly defiled (damn destructive moggies…yeah, keep purring you little monster), clear off a dozen incomplete projects from my game table, and stage a game in my own home, instead of vagabonding around town with a carload of figures in boxes, looking for a venue.

There. I’ve admitted it. Shmaybe this winter, after I spray the final layer of Dullcote on these hundred stands of 15mm ACW I’ve been rebasing and touching up.

Painting better, faster and more of would be nice, too.

I wish my piles of rules, scenarios, notes and play sheets were a bit tidier so I didn’t have have to hunt around for hours to find things I KNOW are there.  I’ve always lived with heaps of paper everywhere though, so I should be used to it now.

Definitely painting…often get painters block which is very off putting.

After that, actually gaming…just don’t do much anymore for various reasons.

And the ever present ‘ooh shiny’ butterfly syndrome, which means I rarely finish things that I’ve started.

Meh. I don’t really worry about being better. I just enjoy my hobby; that’s what it’s for.

I’d like to be a better sculptor and painter, and I want to make better terrain.

I would like to be better at focusing on and completing one project at at time, and not getting distracted by shiny new things. I’m content with everything else that is within my control. I’d like to get more games played, but I don’t really like solo gaming and my regular opponent seems to have done a bunk, and I can’t control that.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

skill as a gamer. It’s my weakest suit. I can paint like lightning to an acceptable standard, design a good army list, line up my armies, and then I get beaten like some sort of toddler. It sometimes depresses me. On the other hand I am never short of a game………..

I am quite content with the hobby and the standard I can achieve and the number of games I can play in a month (usually 6 unless our son is home and we play at least 3 games in a weekend while the two SWMBO go shopping).

If I have a wish it is for more space to store figures, terrain, vehicles, aircraft. ships etc. There are too many projects and too little space.

I wish I were better at getting stuff done.  I paint a good bit, get maybe half the project done and then something pulls me away.  Often this leaves me permanently “away.”  🙁

Winning £150k on the lottery or premium bonds is all I need. That would double the time available for gaming/modelling.

I find the biggest problem is quality gaming / productive hobby time, getting displaced by distraction, with it being too easy to plonk down and sit in front of a computer screen. I have started to recapture my midweek evening game time by putting a small game out on the table, but more needs to be done.

I’ve got a Napoleonic game setup on the game table.  I played through turn 1.  There it sits now for a month with the French eagerly awaiting to cross a lightly defended bridge.  😀

I just had my gaming room/den remodeled, floor refinished, a wall of cabinets with matching shelves installed, and all my stuff in the cabinets, books on shelves, a new system keeping track of the myriad figures. Now if I can just keep it this neat…

I need to be more ruthless with the lead pile too. Far too much stuff that I’ll never do but can’t bear to get rid of…because ‘one day’ I will do it (yeah, right)

Plating a game or two with a real, human opponent. My activity soared last year in May and June in the run up to running the games at school. If I knew I would have a monthly game, I would be more motivated to prepare stuff to fight with/over.

As it stands, I am staring down 2 weeks of paternity leave with no computer games to eat up my evenings. So I reckon I will get a few games in.

More games for sure.  Working with projects I’ve already started as opposed to looking on the internet. . .

I wish I could overcome the clauswitzian friction that inhibits my game playing. I’m fine with all the solo activities in the hobby. I just find it difficult to motivate myself to actually play games with other people.

That is the problem, isn’t it?  I’ve found I use my gaming space much more when it is neat.

I’d say “Shame on you!” but you would never hear it over my laughter! 😉

    Actually PLAYING.

When it comes to painting and other activities I could care less about them. I’m even reaching the point where I wouldn’t care about my opponent painting their mini’s just as long as they are assembled and properly based. The point of having the miniatures is to play the game and I wish I could do this more often.
