So, my friend (in real life) and bitter enemy (across the tabletop) were just talking about Infamy ambush points. I said they seem like a wonderful opportunity for creative and imaginative modelling!

    I thought of:

    – some Roman engineers (I think Warlord make some) planning to build one of their damned roads.
    – a barrel. Full of nails of course, to inspire the Carthaginian leader
    – for Pyrrhus, or the Carthaginians, a pile of elephant dung.
    – some very tasty wild boar for the Gauls

TWW is a very inventive group – anyone else think of anything amusing, witty or clever?

I really like the warlord games Celt dog packs and handlers, as they aren’t a unit option in the game I’ll be using a set as three of my ambush markers.

i quite fancy some Druids sacrificing or casting the runes. Something like the Druids from ‘brittania’ tv series, ideally Mckenzie crooks Druid

a dead Roman nailed to a tree to remind varus of who he’s messing with perhaps?

Foundry do a rather nice set of 6 wailing women for their Early Germans, who will be doing double-duty as Snip Snip markers and Dragon Rampant Magic Users. IIRC the set comes with some Roman Heads on sticks too.

edit, on looking, no the heads come in a different pack sadly. It’s 20 years since I bought the ladies 🙂

If you want to get ‘whimsical’ (Yeuch, please don’t) a Giant Cauldron of liquid and a bearded Druid for your Celts.

    What are infamy ambush points?

I can understand the concept (ambush points) but they are for a particular game set?

@ telzy amber  yes, the new ‘Infamy! infamy!’ Rules from Too Fat Lardies.

they are a large-ish skirmish set for ancients. Basically Rome and her enemies.

they mark points in the table from which units deploy in game. For the barbarian player they can launch an ambush attack as well if it hasn’t been scouted by the romans.

They look great. I definitely need a Menhir for my Gauls, so on the weekend I will be scouring the garden for a suitable stone, and cranking up the hot glue gun. I have a Menhir delivery man…  🙂

@fairoaks – those are AWESOME.  I love the fellow whistling, and the extra effort you went to with your foliage.  I also quite like your idea of a Roman nailed to a tree.

@mike – yes, thanks for the Irregular link.  I’ve ordered lots from them over the years, but completely forgot about them for this.  Great reminder.

@sanemax – if you check the force lists, you’ll see the “Wailing Women” are also available as support for the Germans.  So I suppose you’ll get triple duty from those frauleins?

I’m definitely going down the Druid route as an ambush point for my Gauls and Britons. Would love a 28mm version of Getafix !

Also really like the idea of using standing stones/Menhirs, especially as I have a couple of those from Frostgrave.

Love the dog handlers as well, will have to seriously look at those.

I’ll have to see what spare characters/civilians I have left over or can source for other ideas.

I have  just finished my next 2.

all irregular miniatures. Part of their ‘Druid’s sacrificing’ set and some of their generic ancient civilians.

a Druid peacefully practicing his religion and a Celt family out in the fields playing.

definitely no hairy warriors hiding anywhere…..

I think both you and Irregular deserve plaudits for speed! Nicely done.

Definitely no nasty types hiding anywhere nearby. In fact, I’d be inclined to take the contubernium over there, just to see if there was any left over goat for dinner.

    @Tony S thanks!

i think irregular miniatures own a time machine. They seem to pack and ship before you’ve finished ordering, I’ve been buying from them for almost 30 years and they’ve always been like lightning.

Actually, upon reflection, Mike also deserves recognition.  The fellow who runs the site actually helps a member and suggests a manufacturer who is not an advertiser.   That’s the kind of attitude that helps the community, and ultimately leads to more involvement and success.   I quite like being here at TWW.

    Thanks Mike.

(And Irregular are an amazing company when it comes to mail order).

@Tony S agreed, stark contrast to a certain other ‘editor’

Wargames Foundry have a selection of Ancient Civilians. The angry farmers and urban types look great for Rome civil war campaigns.
