Colonel Ribera’s Infante cavalry regiment formed one of the four heavy cavalry regiments in the Spanish 2nd cavalry division at Talavera.
Having been included in General la Romana’s 15,000 strong Army of the North sent to Hamburg in 1808 to support Napoleon’s Grande Armee and the occupation of Prussia, it would have been considered as one of the better elements in the Bourbon Spanish army.
