About a year ago I inherited some Japanese fantasy miniatures from a friend of mine.  They sat in a box as I had no use for them.

ALternative Armies is going to offer a new Monster Hunter game for the range at the end of March.

    Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy

I’ve been waiting for a batch of miniatures stuck in customs so I had some time to build some terrain.  I wanted to build some sort of wall terrain that was portable, easy to build and easy to set up.

    Here is the initial sketch.

Great progress, I am amazed that the corrugated cardboard really works well!

    This is all 15mm, yes?

A long time ago (like 15 years at least) I had a great ninja/samurai game for my then roomates console.  It was a stealth and slash game, and I really liked it.  Had a little bit of fantasy mixed in, and most of the missions involved sneaking through various forts and villages, spying, assassinating, and occasionally rescuing.  Cannot recall the name for the life of me, but what you’re doing is seriously pegging the wayback memory machine flood gates!

Remembered the game’s name:  Tenchu-Stealth Assassins!
Dangit, now I am pretty sure I’ll be getting into this Sengoku game…

I’ve had some warping issues.  Grrrr.  We’ll see how it goes.  I want this to be a cheap project!  I hope the rules work out.  If not I could always play Crom’s Anvil with Ronin instead of Barbarians!

That’s actually something I was thinking about too!  I’m probably going to do a low-fantasy Norse game as well.

I’ve been tempted by some of these figures. Just been painting Museum Miniatures and Eureka Samurai for use with Ronin but was also considering a fantasy version and using Frostgrave….

I’m pleased at how these turned out, although the thin cardboard warped initially and I had to switch paint and rebuild.  I have to make some small scenery items still.  I have a little Buddha, a set of stairs, and a Shinto gate.  You could probably use the same technique for Spanish walls as well.

I think they look great!  And bet of all, not expensive to do!

So, when comes the photo tutorial…?

The walls are foam board, and the tiles are plasticard.  The top is really simple.  It’s really only corrugated cardboard with a bamboo skewer glued to the top.

This is shaping up to be a very cool project, I hope to see more soon!
