    I hear you.
I think my first port of call could be polystyrene packaging with bits stuck on and lots of billboards, pipes and graffiti.
Or cheap plastic bins and containers?

Or….. make a 6mm city so you can have mega buildings and move some 6mm around on that, when they clash swap to the bigger models?

I was just going back over this thread looking to steal some more ideas for more inspiration (yep suckered myself into another 6mm project) and noticed you’re a bit stumped for ideas for terrain.

If you want to build a lot of towers cheaply and reasonably quick you could do what I did for my 15mm Judge Dredd. Look for folding crates and those small plastic cabinets with drawers, simply spraypaint them grey and add as much greblees as you feel you need et voila.

as an added bonus you get some figure storage to

or you could add interior detailing and move the action indoors.

Btw. for those of you who are interested I’m working on judges Anderson and Giant at the moment once they are finished I’m going to start my own thread over in the 6mm scifi forum.

    Cheers,

    Stroezie.

That is some clever use of common items to make terrain with.  Thanks for the suggestion and great work on those.

Both Hellboys come from the Horroclix set “Hellboy & the B.P.R.D Action Pack”, which I think is out of production, but easy and inexpensive to find.

They come prepainted (but I must repaint them!) on clix bases.  The models are easy to remove from the bases (glued on) and rebase them.  They are made of a slightly bendy plastic and fit in well enough with 28mm miniatures.

Good stuff, I have a judge Dredd project that I am working on at the moment (find my threads in the sci-fi topics). I have also been pondering terrain. I am thinking of going down the interior of a block route. Something along the lines of an open area shopping sprawl, with eaterie carts and the like to block los. I also want a bunch of citizens to mix in!

Not yet, although I am getting to a point where I feel like I have to get started on a plan to get these to the table.

I have the Warlord/Mongoose rules and they have fun mechanics and versatility, but I’ve read that there are balance issues from people that have experience playing them.

I’m interested in checking out Pulp Alley.  I see that the Sally 4th team uses this for their Dredd games and I like that the game is story driven.  I’ll probably put in an order for these rules soon.

I have enjoyed your Dredd stuff and the 6mm Dredd project as well!

The terrain is probably the most intimidating part of this to me.  The setting is really wide open and can take place in just about any location you can dream up, but I’d also like to start in MC-1.  I keep flipping back and forth between doing a plaza type setting to start with, using loose rooms and walkways and such to ensure variety, but I also think it would be fun to do some apartments and slums, inspired by the movie and pictures of Kowloon.

I think this indecision and intimidation are really holding me back.  I know I should just jump in and do something, already.

Damn dixie mafia, up to their old tricks again smuggling synthetic bodies.

Very nice. (Well, when I say “nice” I don’t mean to say that bodies in suitcases are normally agreeable to me, but… oh, you get the point  )

Ooooh.  I hadn’t even considered the possibility that they are still alive.

They could be victims to be rescued, kidnapped either for ransom or for sale to organleggers.

They’re cool.  You have to admire whoever came up with the idea for those minis.  From a safe distance, obviously.

Well that was about three seconds of excitement for me between reading the first post and the second

The whole Warlord webstore seems to be down, now.

Warlord isn’t dropping the Judge Dredd product line, is it? I did notice a while ago that they’re no longer selling the starter box (which was a bummer, because I was considering getting it for the limited edition figures that came with it).

I am sort of afraid of that, too.  There’s so much there that I still haven’t picked up!

Last year, around this time, they had a similar sale where I wondered the same thing.  It was just for the boxed sets (buy one, get one free).  That was also when they made the digital rulebook free and stopped selling the physical book, which to me seems like they weren’t selling enough of the line or the rulebook to consider a reprint of the physical version.  A free rulebook is a way to generate interest in the line.

I do hope they aren’t giving up on it, there are more releases in the works that I know of (Mopad, Pat Wagons).  I don’t buy as much of it as I’d like to, but I do buy them and want to collect most of the line.  Last year my wife even gave me that super-expensive Manta tank (sitting on my bookcase assembled, but not painted yet).

I was lucky enough to get the starter set when it was first released.  The limited miniatures are very nice and that gang leader is obviously meant to be Aimee Nixon from Low Life.

This is really a Mongoose product, so even if Warlord decide it isn’t worth it for them to continue selling, then Mongoose might find a different caster and distributor.  I have less faith in Mongoose than I do in Warlord, though, from years of experience.

Heh, I wasn’t able to get my order in before the webstore crashed again. But maybe that’s all right, I’m taking this (as well as the fact I couldn’t get the starter box) as a sign that now is not the right time for me to start a Judge Dredd project. I have a separate (homebrew) sci-fi urban gang war project going on and it might be best to wait and see what’s going to happen with the Judge Dredd range for now. If Warlord isn’t dropping the range and I’m just being alarmist, then I can hope for another sale this time next year. Maybe even for those limited edition figures to come back – the fact I can’t get hold of the Aimee Nixon figure (which is possibly the best-looking figure of the entire range, IMO) is part of what’s been dampening my enthusiasm all along.

If I had gotten my order in, it would have been for the Ape Gang, the Renegade Robots, the Cursed Earth Desperadoes, the East Meg reinforcements and Assassin/Agent pack (in anticipation of the East Meg boxed gang, MC-1 Judges and Citi-Def squad becoming available again later on) and some other mercenaries. There’s a certain charm to the cartoonish quirkiness and the intentionally ridiculous “anything goes” mentality of the Judge Dredd setting and miniatures, which I’m partly missing out on with my aforementioned other project (it’s more restrained). The Ape Gang, Renegade Robots and Cursed Earth Desperadoes are perfect examples of this. Besides, if I’m already committed to making urban/industrial sci-fi terrain for one project, then it kind of makes sense to do several different “gang war” type projects of different flavours to make the most out of that terrain (I’ve even considered taking up Necromunda with alternative figures, and then there’s that upcoming Rogue Stars range from North Star which is looking pretty fun).

But even so, right now Judge Dredd will have to wait. At least I can acquaint myself properly with the comics in the meantime.

I was more interested in the single models, I can’t get those at my flgs but they can get the boxes.  Still got a bunch of stuff, I think there were ‘found stock’ or cancellations, I went back and there was stuff in stock that wasn’t before.  I wish I could’ve landed some fatties, though.  I’ve been eyeing them, recently.

    Still a great deal.

Damn, now that I can access the webstore again (seemed to be some DNS server issue before), even the weapon packs are sold out. I still wanted a couple of those for my other projects. Free shipping, too

There was a large scale DDOS against an American server on Friday, a lot of sites were down, maybe Warlord’s was one of them?

Maybe, though with them being a UK company I would have thought they would have a UK server.
