Never did read Slaine but a couple of the models look OK.
Not talking about those buildings though – after the decent MDF Epic ones it looks like they have gone cardboard (unless that matches the comic)…
10/02/2022 at 20:57 #168262Wouter WolputParticipantQuite a few nice models and the terrain doesn’t look bad either, depending on the price of course.
I did briefly read a few Slaine comics in the past but wasn’t a big fan. Could be fun as a miniature game though.
Looking forward to the reviews.

11/02/2022 at 17:22 #168318fairoaks024ParticipantThe biggest problem is it’s by warlord. They’ll stop supporting it 2 releases in.
loved strontium dog, judge dredd and doctor who games.
they lost interest in all of them pretty quickly. And 1st edition SPQR was terrible and the first errata they brought out for it was an insulting joke.
I love the minis, loved a lot of the games but so many minis and rules that were promised just evaporated.11/02/2022 at 17:28 #168320MikeKeymaster11/02/2022 at 17:33 #168322fairoaks024Participant@mike:- they do, quite quick, quite fun and JD especially has a lot of comic book feel about it.
My only concern is that the first 2 are very heavily slanted to missile combat and I don’t think would be much cop for a pretty heavily combat game like Slaine, but I hope to be proven wrong.
11/02/2022 at 17:35 #168323MikeKeymaster11/02/2022 at 17:51 #168325Tony SParticipantThe buildings are from Sarissa’s Dark Ages range – Celtic village.
I bought a few for my Dark Ages Irish. The walls and roof are that grey padding board stuff. The floor and the roof struts are all MDF. The new roof tiles don’t look as nice as sponge do they? The wattle fences are quite nice, and easy to make.
For the record, they’re out of sprues (as I didn’t get one) and the roofs as shown are not included. The roof is strong enough that it lifts off, so the interior is playable.
11/02/2022 at 17:58 #168326forlorn hope gamesParticipantI don’t know what it is, the more I look at the figures the less excited I am. They look like the characters but seem to fail to capture something? Is it the poses?
Might be that they’re plastic, I find they can be a bit spindly at times. But that’s probably as much to do with the sculptor.

The material roof knock the spots off the tiles but maybe that’s what we expect? The originals look like horse hair and flock and the best representation of the round house thatching I’ve seen. Wonder if the join is hidden around the back ? 🙂 ?
I’ve some of the Renedra fences but the silly little base ‘blobs’ ended up being stuck to tongue depressors as the fences fell over if you looked at them too hard.

I think this is an element.
I suspect they are digital sculpts which imo seem more realistic or indeed spindly than I am used to.
Just keep looking at the Celtos and thinking they have more about them somehow.11/02/2022 at 22:24 #168345Tony SParticipantThe material roof knock the spots off the tiles but maybe that’s what we expect? Sarissa do sell that roof somewhere on their site. I noticed it after I bought the village of course. I tried cutting some kitchen scouring pads to use as a roof, but it didn’t work out for me. I’m not terribly good at terrain! I ended up just using teddy bear fur, which looks all right, but I agree with you Andrew. The roof in the photo looks spot on!
I was thinking the seam is also around the back from the camera, but I suspect it might also be hidden under the flock.
06/12/2022 at 09:54 #180821MikeKeymasterSo I got the rule book for my birthday and after perusing it I have decided to get the starter for Xmas.
Should allow for low model count games which is nice from a painting POV.
The rules are interesting and have some nice ideas. But always with fancy d6.
Conan the RPG has fancy d6, Slaine has fancy d6…Off to browse Celtos and others, talking of which anything for the Drune Lord Skull Sword types?

The Warlord Resin Siocast variant is a surprise. I think I like it but I’m tempted to go with 30mm bases instead of 25mm. The MDF terrain is an odd choice. Doesn’t quite work for me. Think they tried to hammer a square peg into a round house. Think I’ll have a go myself. Make a master of a round house and cast it with long pot life resin so I can brush on or slush the conical roof. A trip to MB Fibreglass in the new year for supplies I think. Don’t you miss pouring the old resin yourself Mike?
