ParticipantNeed to acquire 15/18mm figures for LOTR style wargaming.
Despite my preference for USA sources I did look at Essex. Some good, most fair, some not so great.
Specifically lancers in mail or scale, some horse archers, and dismounts. Field fights more than sieges. No Helm’s Deep battles planned.
Suggested sources?

ParticipantI went with 10mm Copplestone myself.
Khurasan miniatures have some great 15mm, specially orcs, Sauron, Gandalf and Aragorn.

ParticipantAt one time, I was thinking about the Ottonians from Battle Honors/19th Century Miniatures:

Their Black Raven line may be worth a look:

I’d also recommend a look at Battle Valor:

They are designed for a specific mythos, but are beautifully scuplted, and you may find some, such as the orcs, of use.
I haven’t asked the owner about it, but as shields are separate, and you can buy them separately, he might be willing to supply shields different from the ones usually included.

ParticipantSplintered light is a favorite of mine.
http://www.splinteredlightminis.com/romanobritish.html is their Arthurian range. It could fit the bill. Might be better for Gondor.
Essex Goths are pretty nice.

ParticipantIf you are looking for Elvish lancers and horse archers you could try East Riding Miniatures:

Human armies can be done from historical figures. When I did my Rohan army I used mainly Donnington Miniatures:
https://shop.ancient-modern.co.uk/the-dark-ages-and-byzantine-empire-16-c.asp
With Donnington,, you buy by the individual figure (although there is a minimum p&p that makes it worthwhile not doing too small an order). I think that I mainly used a selection of various Franks, Goths and Lombards, with Alan horse archers. Still haven’t settled on what I could use for Gondor armies.
