Painting up some 6mm Long Range Desert Group figures from Heroics & Ros and some of the figures are wearing berets. Did a quick search of images of the LRDG but am curious what colours would the berets have been? Also for the different colours what would the units have been? Thank you in advance.
Without looking up references (its predawn here…) they were initially a mixed bunch of recruits and wore original kit (per corps), so your choice as to how to depict them.
Secondly- wasn’t only Brits, we colonials got involved too as Aussies and New Zealanders ( and SA?) joined- some great books came from survivors. I have one that was printed I think in ’43…
Those guys lived (and many died) a magical existence and were literally desert nomads, so I wouldn’t be making them too pretty or pristine as combat units. Their mytique and camo appearance nearly got them shot up many times by ‘friendly fire’ IIRC.
Here’s a listing for ours, care of our local War Memorial Museum:-

Swinging from left to right no matter where the hobby goes!
The original, first colour, was white but it was soon standardised as sand.
