Hi everyone. I have just started making my first 6mm conifer with a pipe cleaner. I have just used a very dark grey to make the lighter green disappear. Eventually, I would like to add a few more layers of green from darker to lighter.

    My first 6mm tree

The problem is that I still see the metal part in the middle of the tree so I thought I should spray paint my tree because I don’t have an airbrush. So do you recommend one type of spraint paint? Which color? I want my trees to get the darker colors like in nature. Eventually, I have enough acrylic paint to add the lighter layers with a brush. I know this will take time but …

So which kind of spray paint would you recommandor if there is another way without using spray paint it would be cool.

    Thanks!

Wow, I like how it looks so far.  Personally, I wouldn’t change a thing.  I would use magnets on the bottoms, to remove them from forest bases as needed, but they look amazing right now.

Thanks but I would like to know what I should do to make the central metallic part appear brown instead of … metallic 😉

Do you have some pictures of the magnets I should glue on the bottom? I am curious to know what kind of magnet I would need.

I spray primed some pipe cleaners and didn’t have any metal show through, so perhaps that could be your first step next time?  I wish I had more to offer, other than my limited experience with painting wire trees.

As for the magnets, I would go with neodymium (rare earth) magnets.  I order mine (disc shaped, I think 3mm diameter and 2mm thick) from Amazon and ebay.  Make sure it is labeled as neodymium.

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=neodymium+magnets+disc&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&rt=nc&_odkw=neodymium+magnets&_sop=15&LH_PrefLoc=1

I took the clear tube from a ballpoint pen and made my own magnet “applicator”, to make sure I always use the correct polarity.  Super simple, a magnet is inserted and hotglued in place inside the tube, with only 1mm of the magnet sticking out.
