ParticipantA Nordic task force has been sent to Georgia in the mid 90s to keep an eye on some Russian saber rattling.
Norwegians flying their F-5s(never actually took part in any foreign stuff. In the 90s the F16 wound have been sent)
But I’m flying the Viggen. The Viggen i the game fits very well into the mid 90s period. As the Viggen in the game is the most updated version with early 90s upgrades.
The Viggen together with the F-14 are seen as some of the best made planes in DCS. Both made by Heatblur. It has captured the Viggen in all its Swedish quirkiness. The campaign is free with the Viggen. And is a good introduction. This first one was quite routine.
I haven’t flown the Viggen since I did it once 7 months ago. So very not a pro.

ParticipantMission two from the Heatblur Campaign Mjölnir Response. After the first mission being very routine, things are heating up. Things go well except my HUD disappears for no reason when dropping the bombs and my Wingmand almost kills me when I try and land.

ParticipantYou and your landing gear troubles, lol!
I always liked the Draaken and Viggen, such cool and unique looking planes.

I had tried the mission previously and has serious trouble with the take off. So this time I got so busy with the take off I forgot about the gear.
Viggen is very fun, very based on strange Swedish logic. But once you learn it it’s very easy. The radar while old and simple is very effective. The autopilot is also very simple and effective. Setting up weapons can be super easy to somewhat overly complicated, depending on which weapons you use.

ParticipantMission 3, the war has gone very hot, and I get to use the Robot 04E anti ship missiles.
Also my worst landing to date.26/08/2022 at 18:00 #177326Truls Engebakken-Fjell
ParticipantMission 4 of Mjölnir Response went better than I would have guessed, My first ever time on target mission in the Viggen (or any plane) and I got there on the second. However, I missed my target and blew up what was the target of another flight. But nice big explosion tho. My wingman would have taken out our flight’s target I’m sure, if not for the fact he managed to crash on take-off… That was a new one for me.
But I finally managed to land the damn thing properly!27/08/2022 at 16:07 #177373Truls Engebakken-Fjell
ParticipantThe final mission in the Vigge campaign, except for a very unorthodox way of blowing up a bridge(basically shooting it with rockets from under the bridge) Nothing much happened.
But there is a sequel to the Campaign and this time the embattled Georgians, Swedish, and Norwegians get support from the mighty Luftwaffe with its Tornadoes

ParticipantFinally caught up on this series. I was impressed you were able to hit that bridge sipping along like that, nice reflexes! A little disappointed there was no air combat, but you can’t have it all…

Yeah I did see what looked to be a air to air fight returning from Mission 4. And thought about seeing if I could help. But decided to leave it. You feel really vulnerable in the Viggen when it comes to air to air as you have so little situational awareness. And the Viggen really isn’t made to do air to air. You’ll run the risk of stopping the engine if you do to much acrobatics in a fight.
