I’ve finished my Pontic phalanx, 96 figures before I stopped counting. Here are the liberated slaves.
These are 15mm from the old Frei Korps range now out of production. Next here are the Donnington 15mm Brazen Shields looking suitably brassy I hope.
I’ll do the scythed chariots next.
There’s more on my blog if you would like to see it.

nice work OB
Whose chariots will you be using, and do they come ‘ready scythed’ or do you have to scythe ’em up with a conversion?01/08/2019 at 15:53 #119035
I’ve got one Old Glory and one from Essex, or maybe it’s an old Frei Korps, they both come with scythes. I really like the look of the Donnington one. I’ll likely buy one.
BTW I got my Khurasan Bukelarii, very nice.

what do you think of the horses from Khurasan?03/08/2019 at 14:53 #119234
They remind me of smaller versions of the Legio Heroica ones. Not cuddy heaven by any means but they will look fine when finished and based. You not happy with them?

Not really, no. I hate painting horses, and need a lot of help from the figure. I am pondering buying some essex cavalry and binning the riders – Essex horses almost paint themselves. I hit the same issue with the Peter Pig ones I bought to be my Pseudo Goth Cavalry – in the end I bought far fewer than originally planned, mounted them all on spare essex horses, bought half a dozen packs of Essex Germanic Cavalry to mix in, and the few PP that are one-piece just had to blend in.
This is not, I may keen to say, an issue with quality – they are just not my sort of horse 🙂
They do have one issue that I do blame the manufacturer for – my bases are 20mm deep. that’s almost a universal base depth for 15mm so I am not alone in this. How do you find your Khurasan horses fit on the bases?04/08/2019 at 13:59 #119268
I just sat one of them on an Essex horse and the fit seemed OK. I think it might work best with the horse from the Macedonian Companion cavalry pack. The figures legs look long on the walking Essex horse-which is probably historically correct but doesn’t look as lively.
I have no problem basing the Khurasan stuff, Pulse of Battle suggests 30 wide x 40 deep bases. Cheaper cavalry units too 8 figures versus 12!
