ParticipantMy Star Wars legion figures are coming along nicely, soon enough I’ll have enough for a decent sized game. The latest additions are another set of Stormtroopers and some more Rebel aliens.
There’s pictures of both on my blog:

ParticipantThanks DSG, yep, as long as they don’t hit themselves, it will all be good…

MemberVery nice! I like the rebel conversions especially.
This is also the first I’ve noticed of you having a Star Wars Legion project going on. I look forward to catching up on your previous updates next time I crave sci-fi inspiration.

ParticipantThanks Rhoderic, I have been plugging away with Legion for a couple of months. If you have look through my blog’s archive, you’ll find a lot of Legion posts that are quite recent.

ParticipantNice brush work there.
How do the rules play? I have a bunch of the old West End games figures. I keep meaning to finish them off.

ParticipantCheers Ian, the rules are good IMO, they are fast-play and work off buckets of dice principles. The movement rules, in particular, are good, you move the unit commander and the rest of the figures conform to them, so you don’t measure each individual figure. It also means they can occupy terrain features realistically. There’s a few omissions here and there, but the gaps can easily be filled in with house rules. I also had a lot of the WEG figures and have played the rules a lot and I prefer Legion.

ParticipantThese look great. I see them in my store and are tempted, but I already have enough stuff that I’m not painting…

What I have found interesting so far is that people I have talked to are split almost 50/50 on which set they prefer! I imagine once more vehicles and troops types are put out for Legion things may shift that way as it is a lot more “fast play”, which seems to be the thing nowadays.

ParticipantThanks Noel, go on, you know you want to, just make that to-paint pile a little higher…
DSG, I really liked WEG’s rules, but they are the RPG scaled down. It works but there is also a lot of paperwork. The Legion rules speed things up with cards and buckets of dice. I prefer the latter these days, it makes learning rules easier and game play flows quicker. Even my dull-witted mates picked up the basics of Legion quickly. I’m at a point where I want to play a game not wade through a massive tome of rules. I agree, when more units have been released, there will be a shift, I think.
