I was really enthused when I received a gift of the Mortal Gods Starter Set along with the Athenian and Spartan sets.  Sadly the miniatures did not live up to my expectations and I ultimately decided to get rid of them due to the negative impact they were having on my hobby enthusiasm. However, I knew I wanted to make use of the rules – and with my wife playing plenty of Assassins Creed Odyssey the inspiration was there frequently!

So I looked around and decided to give it a try in 15mm – with Museum Miniatures ‘Z’ range catching my eye!

I’ve got my Athenian Lochos completed – here are a pair of hero-types to lead:

    two greek warriors
I’m not much for freehand so use it sparingly to indicate leader-types!

Next is a couple of groups of Hoplites – these will be used in game as the lighter type:

    6 greek warrios
And a couple of groups of heavier Hoplites (as shown by their bronze armour – trying to keep it simple for ‘at a glance’ recognition on the table top):

    6 Greek warriors

Providing a ranged threat are a couple of groups of Archers:

    6 greek archers

Finally I had a trio of odd Hoplites left over – these can be rolled out whenever I have some spare points:

    3 Greek warriors

I quite enjoyed painting these Museum Miniatures Greeks – I’ve got another couple of Lochoi on the go that I’ll share soon!

Crikey. What was wrong with them?

The worst wrist joins I’ve ever come across. A common feature I’ve found from them across three of their ranges…which is a great pity as otherwise they are lovely miniatures.

Here’s the Spartan Lochos! Again, all are Museum Miniatures Z range.

    The heroes:
    2 Spartan heroes
Next a couple of units that I will use as Krypteia in Mortal Gods:

    6 greek warriors
But the core of the Lochos comes in the form of these 300 style Hoplites:

    9 spartans
For the ranged element of the Spartans I opted for javelins:

    6 javelinmen
I tried to make sure that they would contrast with the Athenians – taking inspiration from watching my wife play AC Odyssey of course!

Does she play tabletop games too?

Oh yes, I get to paint up everything and she’ll play basically anything and everything!

not sure if she’ll pick Athenians or Spartans in this one though!

Finally on the Lochoi front (as the Persians are still a very strong possibility at some point!) is a mercenary band I’ve dubbed the Sons of Adonis.

I opted for pinks for these chaps to mark them out from the Athenians and Spartans (and I intend to use purple for Persians).

As before, all Museum Miniatures Z range.

    First, the heroes:

    2 ancient greek warriors
These chaps got my most ambitious freehand to date with a trophy design.

Providing the backbone of the Lochos are a few groups of various Hoplites:

    6 ancient greek warriors

    6 ancient greek warriors
Finally a couple of groups of more heavily armoured Hoplites:

    6 ancient greek warriors
As with the other two Lochoi, I’ve included some missile troops too – for the Sons of Adonis I opted for slingers (so all three Lochoi have different ranged support):

    6 ancient greek slingers
On this project I’m turning my mind towards some scenery for now… but I’m sure those pesky Persians will appear at some point down the line!

    Cool cool.
I hate freehand shield designs. Fair play to you.
