Following harassment, I’ve started posting my AB Austrians on the blog, starting with the infantry regiments. The usual disclaimers apply: This blog may cause drowsiness. Don’t read my blog if taking strong medication, driving or operating heavy machinery. Wash your hands thoroughly after viewing. If symptoms persist, self-isolate for two weeks with a pile of unpainted AB Figures and paint.

More flippin’ Austrians… This time it’s the Landwehr and Insurrectio:

Wow!  That is one impressive looking army.    AB figures are, in my humble opinion, the finest 15mm Napoleonics available but your painting certainly does them proper justice!

Cheers Tony.  Yes, they are exquisite figures.  If only they painted themselves… Only another 3,000 unpainted ABs to go… 🙁

Lovely figures and great painting. Hard to believe they are 15mm.

I love the 1809 campaign; been fighting it on and off since 1974 with a variety of different sized figures (and board games and computer games) – currently painting Austrian 6mm figures and I feel your pain with white uniforms! Even at that scale.

Only ever fought Wagram as a board game – may get there this time, you never know. Aspern-Essling and Teugn-Hausen seem to get more than their fair share of replays with me – must be double barrelled names that does it.

    3,000 more to paint!?

    Keep ’em coming!

Exactly what I was going to say! Beautiful work!

Had the pleasure of fighting it a couple of months ago – real ding-dong scrap, great fun.

Cheers chaps!  Yes, Wagram is an ENORMOUS undertaking!  Even at the scale I play, where each unit is a brigade and 1km is roughly 1 foot of table, the whole battle would need a massive, L-shaped table, around 20-foot long east-west and 12 feet north-south along the base of the ‘L’.  But one day… 🙂

Anyway…  More Austrians. Try to contain your excitement…

As it happens, we’re doing part of the ‘base of the L’ tomorrow: Massena’s counter-attack against Klenau’s move through Aspern & Essling.  The scenario is here: http://www.jemimafawr.co.uk/2019/12/29/massenas-counter-attack-at-wagram-6th-july-1809-a-scenario-for-napoleons-battles/

Mark’s BBB scenario for our Wagram game fitted it on the usual 6’x4′ table. We fought it to conclusion on a Monday evening with time for a jubilant pint in the pub afterwards. My brief blog report said this:

‘With 300,000 men on the pitch, this little scuffle was even bigger than Solferino. You’d think it might leave no room for maneuver and just be a dull slugfest, but it was a fantastic game. No shortage of slugging it out, to be sure, but plenty of movement, and a real feel of punch/counter-punch, like two heavyweights trading blows, reeling back and then surging forward again. Awesome.’

Cheers Chris!  I’ll look at that later.  Anyway, here’s the last part for now – the Grenadiers:

    Thanks chaps! 🙂

I managed to get them on the table last Saturday (probably the last game for a while…), so the report’s to follow.
