I appear to have accidentally turned my PhD into a real book. It even seems to be all the right words mostly in the right order. It’s taken long enough, so I hope they are roughly in the right order anyway. My new book will be published on 24th December 2021. It is available for preorder now, currently with 20% discount on the Routledge website. Even with that discount, the hardback is eye-wateringly expensive, but the e-book may be a more realistic solution for most. There is a Kindle edition that is heading towards cheap enough, if you prefer that format. Sadly, I have no control over the price. There will also be a paperback edition available one year after the publication of the hardback. That is likely to be the most realistic prospect for those interested in hardcopy.

If you’re interested in Vikings and berserks then this might be the book for you. I wrote a bit about my thinking and approach on my blog and have previously written about how I think berserkir should be depicted in wargames on the blog. The tl:dr is that the medieval audience would not have understood berserkir in the sagas in the same way as we do now, and that this has implications for how we understand the Viking Age reality of berserkir.

I hope my random musings, and maybe even the book, are of some interest, even if the hardback is too expensive for the average purse.

    Congratulations on the book!

    Looks fascinating.

Might have to be a Christmas present at that price though!

Off to drop some heavy hints.

    Best wishes for it.

    Congratulations.

Your interview with Cat Jarman on the ‘Gone Medieval’ podcast was very interesting. I’m sure I’ll start a Viking Age project one day…

    Thank you, chaps.

Guy, if you get it for Christmas, I hope you enjoy it.

Usagitsuki, I’m glad you enjoyed the Gone Medieval podcast. Cat is brilliant and the interview with her was a real pleasure.
