My new book came out last week. It’s a potted history of Leicestershire and Rutland in the Viking Age and available from Five Leaves Bookshop in Nottingham, if anyone is interested. I’d recommend Five Leaves over Amazon, because they are a small, independent bookshop and because several people have noted that Amazon claims it’s out of stock. I suspect this has more to do with Five Leaves not supplying Amazon than anything else.

Viking Leicestershire describes the county as it was throughout the Viking Age, through the various stages of Scandinavian settlement. It uses a range of historical evidence, including documents, place-names, artefacts and sculpture, to explore the impact and contribution the Scandinavian settlers made to the character and history of Leicestershire.

To keep it relevant to wargaming, there are a couple of mentions of raiding armies riding out of Leicestershire and one siege of Leicester in the book. Hopefully, these will inspire people to do more Viking gaming. You could also use it as a primer for your visit to Leicester in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, if you are that way inclined too. N.B. Ubisoft never asked me about Leicester for the game, so I cannot speak for the accuracy of its depiction though. 🙂

Congratulations on the release! Ubisoft probably really missed out.  I didn’t get to visit the area when I was ‘across the pond’ but it sound very interesting.  I like books that can really narrow down to local level.  Hopefully they’ll ship to the US.

    Edit: They do.  Book ordered!
