ParticipantLike it says on the tin, I’ve started making some new terrain boards inspired by Ali’s exellent ones.
So far I’ve only stated on the first, but there’s plans being made for about a full dozen.
Two modest WiP-pics is all I have to share at the moment, but more will come as soon as I make some headway:

MemberLooking good! Been thinking about those Old Crow pipes myself.

ParticipantLooking good!
Are you going to do a big board that can be split into smaller pieces or are you going full, all the tiles can be placed in any configuration, modular thing?

ParticipantCheers guys ๐
The Old Crow pipes are nifty, the bridged ones are really nice and I have been looking for an excuse to use them..
@Stroezie: I was thinking that each piece could be used on it’s own as well as a complete set. It’s probably going to be a modular thing, I do prefer multi-use pieces if I can help it, but we’ll see how far I actually get.12 boards at 25x25cm is a lot of space to fill, I’m not even sure what to make out of all of them right now. We’ll just have to see what I come up with!

ParticipantNow the first board is completed!
The finished refinery in all it’s glory ๐
All joking aside, I think it came out quite good, good enough that I decided to stick with this idea of mine for a bit longer.
So I started on board No2 yesterday, here are some early pics:
Drawing out some of the basics on the acrylic.
And the same base board with some texture and a first lick of paint.I have started painting the buildings that are to go on this board, but there will be some time before they are all done as I have more work before any progress can be made. But I’ll share any news as soon as they are photo-ready!

ParticipantThat is a very cool start already, if you keep this up for the rest of the tiles it will be an awesome board.
This is not good, I was going to concentrate on playing games and testing new rules this year and you are already tempting me to do more terrain

Participant@Stroezie: Cheers, I’m rather pleased with it, I just hope the rest will come out in a similar fashion and that I manage to focus for long enough to finish them all!
Focus man, we need more battle reports! ๐
But in all seriousness, I’d love to see some games from you!
@Ali: Thanks Ali, glad you liked it. It’s nowhere near as nice as yours yet, but when I have the rest done I hope to give you a run for your money ๐

ParticipantI have something in the works, based on a fight in a book I read a while ago. But that will only work if I find some good alien bad guys to be OpFor..

ParticipantWhat kind of aliens are you looking for?
09/01/2017 at 21:26 #55289Just Jack
ParticipantAlexander,
Holy @#$%!!!ย You made that!!??ย That looks incredible!ย I’m looking forward to some fights on it.

Participant@Just-Jack: Cheers! I sure did, thanks for the kind words. There will be fights for sure, don’t you worry about that ๐
@Stroezie: I’m trying to find some good big alien looking bug things, sort of like the starship troopers bugs, but bigger. I don’t think I’ll need a whole lot, they are supposed to be a “quality-over-quantity” sort of giant bugs if that makes any sense?http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.com My project blog

ParticipantContinuing to be uncharacteristicly productive, I have finished up the second tile:
The idea is for the whole thing to be rather modular, so all the buildings can be moved around on this board, as well as the compound walls, they can be removed to remodel the piece as needed. (No photos of alt. setups right now, I just painted the things I needed for this initial one.)
I have started work on the 3rd board as well:
It’s also a residential one, but a slightly more up-scale one, for those lucky enough to live outside the shanty-town but not lucky enough to have their own estates.
With 3 locked down, there is only another 9 to go if I’m to make all 12. I have a few ideas, but we’ll see which ones makes the final grade..

ParticipantAmazing.ย I just bought some 6mm stuff to do some Star Wars kinda stuff with my 7-year old, this would be perfect.ย I’m gonna need you to send that to Texas ๐
Really amazing, keep up the great work!

Thanks Just Jack. Nothing to it, all you need is some sand and a few brigade buildings and you have a great 6mm Mos Eisley!

ParticipantBrigade models buildings would be perfect for Mos Eisley. I am getting more and more tempted to just transfer my miniatures to be a complete rip off of Star Wars.

ParticipantThe Star Wars universe is grand, you could easily transport your project there! Running smugglers and adventures out of Mos Eisley ๐
And now for an update on the latest tile:
A second residential tile for the slightly better off. An apartment of your own as well as outdoor open-air park around every structure, showing of the residents wealth and status. The buildings are removable, so the entire tile can be remodeled into a park district or something of the sort.
I also have a WiP for the next tile, the downtown commerce district :
The basic shapes mapped out, buildings and such is being constructed as well, and I hope to have more to share in a few days. Some more pics on the blog as usual :http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/01/new-terrain-boards-project-no3-finished.html

ParticipantFor todays update, I have the 4th tile all done:
A commercial district, this tile contains both a big department store as well as several smaller businesses.
The tile can be cleared like the previous ones to allow for different sets of buildings..
..And here’s just the buildings with models for scale. For the rest of the pics, along with some of the giant robots from last post, check out the blog:http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/01/new-terrain-boards-project-no4-all.html

ParticipantWhile not a completed piece, I thought I’d show this WiP:
All the groundwork has been laid down, roads marked, ground texture added and BUA constructed. The built up area will contain an Admin building, combining city hall with judiciary and such services.
Hopefully I will have some more updates for you by the end of the week!

ParticipantAnd so the fifth tile is finished:
As with the rest, the building is removable so I can reuse the tile for other buildings.

ParticipantI was thinking that I’d try to get a group shot together this weekend, even if there will be a few gaps where the last few tiles will go.
I’ll try to works faster Mike, but if you lock it up I can’t post the rest ๐

ParticipantAs promised I have some shots of the 5 tiles together, now that I’m little more than halfway there:
As you can see, it’s shaping up to be a quite substancial town, even if there’s some holes where the remaining tiles go. Seeing it all together, I’m rather tempted to add another few tiles. We’ll see if that happens..
A few additional shots on the blog, and the 5th of my stompy robots :http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/02/halfway-post-for-new-terrain-tiles-and.html

ParticipantHey, looking good!
I have to say so far the refinary and the enclosed compound are my favourites, although I can see the usefullness of the taller buildings for your big mecha or maybe even some low altitude flyers.
Either way it’s going to look killer once it’s all finished.
16/02/2017 at 17:30 #58042Alexander Wasberg
ParticipantCheers ๐
Yeah, the taller building are as much for flavour as for usefullness, the giants I’ve been toying around with lately need some serious real estate to get a modicum of cover..
That’s my hope too, in a month or so we’ll probably know ๐

ParticipantCheers Michael and William, I’m glad you like the project so far! To answer the question Michael, the building in question is from Brigade. It’s one of their 6mm desert ones I believe, like most of my non-scratch built ones.
this is the one http://brigademodels.co.uk/6mmSF/Desert%20Buildings/B300-125.html

ParticipantSo I made a bit of a update today, having made some progress on the 6th and 7th board:
Some of the buildings that will go on the tile, and the tower for the 7th one.
Tile no6 with some buildings set up.
As with all the other tiles, the buildings can be removed for maximum re-useability.
The 7th tile, with the one tower for now. Some highrises are in the works however. The full post on the blog:http://lasersandbroadswords.blogspot.se/2017/03/update-terrain-boards-wip-space-mechs.html

ParticipantIt about time for another update me thinks:
I’ve been back for a few weeks now, and finally finished up some more pieces for the terrain boards!
The full set. All Ali’s creations from Sayiner micro toys.
Technically these pieces aren’t a part of any of the tiles I’ve shown so far, but I might integrate them into tile 9, or one of the additional ones I’m thinking about making..
Now I definitely have more houses for the slums and residential areas than I need, but they’ll come in handy I’m sure!
Tile 8 is in the works, so next update should hopefully contain finished shots of no 6,7 and 8!
