Hello
We have some 1:3000 metal Cold War era warships to paint. Notably HMS Illustrious, HMS Broadsword and a generic sea harrier.
Never done this before! Would any kind person out there be able to point us in the right direction for acrylic paint colours?
Have been looking into Vallejo and Tamiya paints but it’s all getting very confusing.
Much gratitude in advance.
From what I remember Tamiya is more expensive. If you’re going after actual accurate colors, Vallejo Model colors is a good substitute. Not sure if others would agree with painting lighter than actual colors for 1/3000 ships. I’ve done accurate colors for WWII USN pattern and they look too dark, needing more highlight than usual.
RN ships are light gray Harriers are dark gray.
You can get Valejo color charts here and compare to photo references.

If you’re not concerned about color accuracy then most other brands will work just fine.
Thank you!
