Work is progressing nicely on No Stars in Sight, the scifi counterpart to No End in Sight.
Getting to the point where I can start thinking about alien troops for people who want that.
Obviously xenomorph/bugs are in but I’d like to have 4-6 archetypes of aliens that can be dropped right in without a lot of work. There’ll also be a list of alien traits to build your own.
So things like “Honourable collectivist warrior society” (ala Turians in Mass Effect).
Probably will have a space orc equivalent as well. Any other suggestions?

Humaniod race that are excellent traders\merchants.

Ooh – and clone robots that look just like humans, but have special traits.

And not just entirely human-like things and oversized insects. That’d be good. Just go nuts and see how far away from human-with-a-different-hat you can push the system. And then include that one as a demonstration.

With each category provide a list of quick options that alter the theme slightly. All you would need is a simple chart under each heading and your basic listing for Space Warriors could be morphed into Turlans, Orcs, Klingons, or any other variation on the warriors.
This could be repeated through several themes and allow you to cover a universe full of aliens in one book.

27/11/2014 at 00:29 #13279Nathaniel WeberParticipantThere should be zombies as well! But for my purposes, mind-control zombies…the walking dead don’t do much for me from a narrative perspective. I prefer the idea of an advanced alien force–maybe the greys?–coming to earth and spreading a genetic mutagen that makes humans suspectible to their telepathic mind control, giving them an army of millions of meat puppets.
….because, you know, a galaxy-spanning civilization would need such strategies to beat us…

27/11/2014 at 01:14 #13282Ivan SorensenParticipantMaybe “tech zombies” ala the bad guys from Quake 2 and 4?
There’ll be some cat people in there 🙂

or something like the Husk from Mass Effect link
