First 3mm Microworld mob finished. A couple of 6mm goblins thrown in as trolls, too.

Ya they do!  Really like the effect of them all pressed in together.

Looks great and really showcases the strengths of 3mm. A mob looks very mobish.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get muddy and the pig just likes it.

that must take a wwhile to paint all the different colors. The finished product looks well worth the time though.

These are softer than O8 minis right?
How easy would it be to remove these from the strip for individual basing?
Command and cavalry looks easy enough.

They are softer than O8, yes, and the strips CAN be split up a bit, but not into individuals.

What I do is split up the heavy orcs into groups of two or three, split the regular orc strips into groups of 2,3, and 5, and toss in a few 6mm goblins as trolls. Makes the resulting mass look nicely chaotic.

I was hoping to individually base them for RPG.

At 3mm scale that might be ambitious but I’ve had a great deal of success with the Microworld 6mm line in that wise.

Buy the command packs! Those orcs are all individually based. You’ll get ten standard bearers, but everything else should be useful. And orc mages, to boot! For a skirmish game, a pack or two should do you.

    @Mr Avrage
Well, you know me, 3mm for life.

    @Thaddeus
I might do that for the heavy orcs and banner. I think I’ll get some Canguard 3mm Skinners for comparison as well, they look much easier to separate.

Oh, most definitely! The Vanguard stuff is all based seperately.

Unfortunately the one usable pack they have is the Tribal with Axe. Oh, that’s in 6mm.

Here’s the nucleus of the army! Two mobs and a Suizz pike block, backed up by hyena riders, a mob of big ‘uns, and some giant trolls. The stone giant is just chillin’ here until the dwarves arrive. Neither the general nor the hyena riders are flocked yet and the general’s stand is still awaiting a band of shamans.

My orcs are “Orcstain” orcs, so they come in various colors.

Greens are understood to be “‘arder”.

    Reds “go fasta” (of course).

    Yellows are “sneaky gits”.

    Blues “iz just smarter”.

Greens outnumber the rest by about two to one.

I just noticed that half of one of the bhoyz mobs is running the wrong way. Ahn, orcs….

Normally, it’s easy to see what is front and back because I leave a space at the back. But I’ve packed these guys in pretty tightly on 4×4 bases.

To help with identification, I think I will speckle the front shields with red, orange and yellow and give the front ranks some red “go fasta” streamers to boot. That should clear things up.

They’re not running backwards, they’re mooning the enemy!

They really do look great, awesome mob effect.

That looks good. I really want one but I don’t do big army games.
the only fault I can find is the command base isn’t covered.

I like the painting, they look sufficiently chaotic. Not sure about teh blue though, its not nature you often find in nature. Brown/ochre or bluish gray maybe? Gray would still fit, being old and wise.

The hyena riders are also not covered, Thomaston. The command base is awaiting some shamans. I figure the orcs don’t have much in the way of offensive magic, so their magic user types will mostly accompany leaders and do defensive magic.

A bit of blue here and there makes the stands pop. Besides, orcs are artificial creatures, created in a long ago elven civil war as cheap cannon fodder that has since got out of hand.

(In reality, I just dig Orcstain’s technicolor orcs and this is the easiest way to do that in 3mm.)

I have now glued some tiny red threads to first and second rank orcs in the mobs. They are “go fasta” streamers. As soon as they are dry, I will cut them to size and we’ll see what they look like.

Here we go! ‘Ard Bhoyz, mobs and hyena riders (now with “go fasta” streamers) and command stand, duly based and finished.

I want to see more of the pike units, the streamers probably look better on those. More height for them to stand out.

Now that 3mm range is expanding I’m looking into 2mm. Always pushing the envelope.

The streamers probably would look better on the pikes, but I put them on the mobs, just so I could have a quick visual cue, from arm’s length, which end was front.

Not sure if I will put them on the pikes yet, but future mobs will be given spearmen here and there with streamers.

Don’t blame them. But true, it’s always better to face what’s behind you, than to turn your back to what’s in front of you…

Very nice troop! And in 3mm? I hardly knew it existed, I’m impressed by the result.
