ParticipantThank you for your efforts in sharing this. When the History of Wargaming Project reprinted his book, with additional material on the Hyborian campaign, I bought it simply for that extra chapter, because I found that the most fascinating part of that book. (Not that I didn’t think the rest of the book was good and very useful, but rather when my young self discovered and read that book, it was the Hyborian campaign that fired my imagination).

ParticipantThank you so much for making this available. Reading the history of ‘ Hyboria – the campaign that grew’ in Military Modelling was my introduction to wargaming and it is still the kind of wargames campaign I aspire to running one day (I don’t suppose I ever will but a guy can dream).

ParticipantThank you, one of the iconic wargame greats. Without people like him we would not have this fantastic hobby.

ParticipantExcellent, thanks for doing this. Like others, I brought his book many years ago (too many) and read the column in Military Modelling/Battle. Always found the Hyboria campaign fascinating and looking forward to reading this.

ParticipantJust a thought, but perhaps it should be offered to John Curry’s History of Wargaming Project, perhaps to be included in a third edition of Tony Bath’s Campaign book? I think Mr Curry is doing an invaluable service to preserve wargaming’s roots, and I believe these documents would definitely qualify.

Participant@Tony S :
My father left the Hyborian documents to me when he passed away last year, together with a bunch of Tony Bath’s original Hyborian miniatures.
For as long as I can remember my dad made me aware of their importance to both himself as to the hobby in general. I am now their caretaker and will not part from them as long as I breathe. Rest assured, I will see to it that they go to a good home when my time comes.
What John Curry is concerned, I’m pretty sure my dad gave him copies of all documents.

Frederik Geudens

ParticipantIt was really good to get my hands, metaphorically, at least, on the original, great to sit down and read 🙂

Just to be clear, I wasn’t inferring that you’re doing anything wrong or selfish – quite the contrary; I think what you’re doing is very, very generous and wonderful. I was just thinking that you might not have thought of Mr Curry, with the idea that Mr Bath’s legacy might be broadened to a larger audience.
I should have guessed it had already occurred to your father. And like Jim, I really enjoyed reading about the many campaigns that ravaged Hyboria. Thanks!
