For anyone unfamiliar with us, Pendraken now stock well over 6000 products for wargamers, including figures, scenery, MDF buildings, paints, bases, decals and more. The majority of our products are in 10mm scale (1:150th) but we also stock a wide selection of other items. We have a shop in the north-east of the UK as well if anyone wants to call in!

This thread will contain all of our releases and new product lines for 2023, so to get things started…

Our next release of the year is a really fun one, as Techno’s Night Terrors are now available!  These Fantasy chaotic hybrid sculpts are sculpted by Phil Lewis and are an eclectic combination of heads, weapons and limbs to create some truly weird looking creatures!

For anyone unaware of Phil’s background, he worked at Games Workshop in the early 1990s, overseeing the photography, painting and sculpting departments at various points.  Some folks may remember his Blood Bowl team that appeared in White Dwarf many moons ago, with these new figures following a similar old-school theme.

So for a bit of 1990’s nostalgia, head over and take a look here: https://www.pendraken.co.uk/technos-night-terrors-1095-c.asp

Next up we’ve got a very useful addition for multiple scales, with wire spears and pikes now available in various sizes.

These are made from 0.8mm coated steel wire and are extremely strong, so won’t get bent during use.  They’re also very sharp so watch your fingers when you’re picking up your units!

We’ve got the flattened spear tip versions in 40mm, 50mm, 80mm and 100mm options.  And then we’ve also added rounded pike tip versions in 40mm and 50mm, which will be perfect for smaller scale figures.

We’ve been waiting for the stock of these to arrive in the UK so we’re very pleased to announce that we’re now stocking the Vallejo Xpress range of paints!  Similar to the GW Contrast or Army Paint Speedpaints, these are designed to provide a quick method for painting figures.  From the Vallejo website:

When we need to paint multiple figures in a fast way, Xpress Color is the ideal choice, these matt colors are specifically formulated to paint miniatures in a fast and easy way.

The main characteristics are its excellent capillarity that allows the color to flow easily over the miniature surface, settling on all the reliefs and more intensely in the crevices of the figure, creating a contrast effect with a single layer of paint.

It’s recommended to apply Xpress Color on a white or grey primed or painted surface. The color will create light areas on the reliefs, saturated mid-tones and intense shadows in the crevices of the figure.

Like all our products, they are very versatile and can be applied over any color in the range to create soft shading and contouring effects, to create glazes or filters and to blend transitions between color tones.

Xpress Color can be mixed together, or can be diluted with Xpress Medium to modify or create new shades.

There’s a pdf file with the colour swatches available here: https://www.vallejoacrylics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Colores-GC-2022.pdf

The delivery should be with us in the next couple of days so all orders will be posted out as soon as the stock arrives.

Our new wire spears and pikes have been received extremely well, so much so that we’ve already had requests for the larger 80mm and 100mm ones to come in a pike tip as well. Never one to disappoint, we’ve got that done straightaway and these are now available along with the other sizes/options on our website.

We’ve had a few requests for more Napoleonic flags so we’ve now added sheets for Dutch-Belgian, Brunswick, Nassau and Hanoverian!  These have been designed by Michael Craig from the Battle of Waterloo (https://www.thebattleofwaterloo.com/) and they look great.

Information for some of these nations is quite thin on the ground so there is an element of conjecture involved with some of the designs, which are labelled on each sheet.  There’s also the fact that the Dutch-Belgians didn’t carry any flags in 1815, so these are actually the flags issued around 1820.  We’ve had a lot of requests for them though so we thought it best to put something together for the folks who like to have flags on their units.

After its launch at Salute this past weekend, our new Korean War supplement is now available!

The Forgotten War is a supplement for the popular Blitzkrieg Commander IV wargames rules, focussing on the Korean War from 1950-1953.

Written by Mark Fry and Rob Anderson, The Forgotten War contains 8 new army lists as well as 6 historical scenarios complete with maps. New rules include Line Commanders (for Wave Attacks), Street Barricades, Static Smoke Dischargers and Medical Bases.

This 52-page supplement is available in hard copy through our website here: https://www.pendraken.co.uk/nbkc-for-nthe-forgotten-war—korean-war-supplement-9983-p.asp or as a PDF through Wargame Vault here: https://www.wargamevault.com/product/435230/The-Forgotten-War

“The Korean War was a ruthless struggle between two opposing ideologies, conveniently mirroring the bigger world picture of Western democracy versus Eastern communism. North Korea was backed by the Soviet Union and Communist China, with the former investing cash and the latter, men, arms and materiels. The Republic of Korea was backed by the USA and subsequently by the United Nations, with the vast majority of the foreign forces involved being American.

This was the first of the larger post World War II conflicts but much of the military tactics and technologies deployed came directly from the previous world war. Whilst there were rapid advances in aircraft technology, this had very little impact on the war on the ground, and with the harsh and mountainous terrain that dominates the Korean Peninsula, major mechanised warfare was also not practical. Therefore, this was primarily a war fought by the infantry from both sides, often in atrocious conditions.

The armed conflict was suspended, in stalemate, on the 27th July 1953, when an armistice was signed by the US, UN, China and North Korea, but this has never been ratified by the South and a fractious divide remains between North and South Korea along the 38th parallel to this day. North Korea remains a pariah state, cut off from most of the rest of the world, isolated, secretive and still in the grip of a military dictatorship that continues to harbour designs on a unified communist Korean peninsula.”

We have comprehensive ranges available for this conflict with another 65 releases coming online in the next few weeks, including a wide array of artillery, AT rifles, cavalry and more! Have a browse here: https://www.pendraken.co.uk/korean-war-753-c.asp

We know that a lot of you have been waiting for this one, so we’re pleased to announce that our new Russo-Japanese range is now available!

“Rival ambitions between Russia and Japan lead to a surprise attack on the Russian fleet by the Japanese in February 1904.  Despite continuing to suffer defeats over the following 18 months, Russia refused to surrender and the war was eventually ended with the conclusive naval battle of Tsushima in August 1905, and a subsequent peace treaty.

This complete victory by the Japanese military surprised international observers and transformed the balance of power in both East Asia and Europe, resulting in Japan’s emergence as a great power and a decline in the Russian Empire’s prestige and influence in Europe. Russia’s incurrence of substantial casualties and losses for a cause that resulted in humiliating defeat contributed to a growing domestic unrest which culminated in the 1905 Russian Revolution, and severely damaged the prestige of the Russian autocracy.”

We’ve replaced our old range with two new, fully comprehensive ranges containing almost everything you need.  We’d like to thank Scott Blair for sponsoring this range and doing all of the research work for Techno to sculpt from.

At this rate you will be filling up the George Stephenson Hall yourself in a couple of years!

The Russo-Japanese range look super – not a period I know anything about but tie in with the Chinese figures and ‘Back of Beyond’ style games spring to mind…

Great, just in time for me to collect what I need to add to my RCW stuff at Phalanx. I’m in the middle of some serious DIY at the moment but will get an order to you well in time.

What with the recent RCW releases – which look simply stunning – and the new BKC supplement, it seems Pendraken is quite focused on this region of the world!

I always love to see the more obscure gain some limelight.

I think I’d need a bigger van!  You’re right on the range though, loads of nice proxy options in here for civil wars/revolutions and beyond.

I think a large parcel of these will be winging it’s way to you soon for a certain someone!  He tells me you might be working on some flags for them as well…?

All completely coincidental as well!  This range was commissioned by a customer so we just received the sculpts and got them into production, I’d not realised it until you mentioned it!  Funnily enough our next release is another 60+ codes for the Korean War …

Recent RCW releases ? Have I missed something ? Or did you mean RJW ?

I’d love some more RCW stuff but I doubt that I’d scrap the proxies I’m using now that I’ve painted them.

Nope, no more painting 10mm for anyone but myself – and precious little of that for the last month or so.

RJW flags are still ‘in progress’. Japanese basic design done but still awaiting info on the labels of the flags. Russians – I have the info but each regiment seems to have had its own flag design and that is a problem unless I’m misreading the translated Russian site I’ve been using (and there is some possibility of that because it is not well organised). Currently stalled due to major DIY – nearly finished repairing a wall and now have to plaster it.

Oops!  Slip of the finger!  Yes, I meant Russo-Japanese War (RJW), not the civil war.

    Sorry for the confusion!

Hot on the heels of our The Forgotten War supplement, we’ve got 67 new releases for our Korean War ranges!

The bulk of these releases are all of the various artillery options for all of the nations, in both summer and winter kit where necessary. We’ve also filled a few gaps in the original ranges with the addition of AT rifles, bazooka teams, AA guns and some cavalry for the Chinese.

And finally, we’ve included a few nice little extras to go with some of the special rules in Forgotten War. The Americans get a Smoke Discharger team that can release a handy smoke screen across the table. And the Chinese get a Psy-Ops team ready to spread propaganda!
