    I’m not sure why, but I find this reconstruction fascinating.  Rather than just a footnote in history (well, they still are footnotes in history) they seem like real humans.  Elagabalus could be my son!

    Surprised to see that Vespasian was reincarnated as Lyndon Johnson (or maybe I’m remembering an actor that played Johnson).

    Whoa!  Those are eerie reconstructions @A Lot of Gaul!  I’d swear the sculptor managed a certain crazy look in Caligula’s eyes.  Pliny did describe Caligula’s “stare” though, and I think the artist may have captured that.

    Very interesting. I was particularly taken by Phillip the Arab. I can’t remember which museum the original sculpture is in, but i remember staring at it for ages. In the sculpture he looked miserable as sin and worried as all hell 🙂
