Ferbs Fighting Forces
ParticipantHi,
I’ve got an annoying bug, I want to post a reply to Henry’s ‘what ancient rules topic’ but it won’t let me. It says I need to be logged in to post which I obviously am.
Anyway I’m interested to see how this forum turns out. Fingers crossed it will become a must visit site.

ParticipantIt seems to have fixed itself after I shut down and reopened my browser. So It’s working fine now thanks. Just for info I was logged in on the homepage when I tried to post and had the bug.
Thanks,
Ferb
D’oh! I spoke too soon I can reply to posts in the ancients forum but its now saying I can’t post new topics as I’m not logged in.

ParticipantIE 11 I also noticed that the black bar at the top of the screen disappears sometimes. I’ve tried it in Chrome and everything seems fine.

ParticipantHi Mike
Not sure if you want all bug reports in one thread, but just wanted to make you aware: I just posted on the general board, and the second half of my post got chopped.
This seemed to occur when I put in an emoticon (a devils face to emphasize how devious my plan to acquire my own hobby room was), because everything I typed from the emoticon onwards disappeared into the aether. Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let's go kill them!

ParticipantNow its back again – I can reply to certain posts but not others as it says I am not logged on – even though I am and can reply to some posts in different threads on the same board
Sooooo frustrating – wanted to help a poster with soee book titles but …..20/08/2014 at 14:57 #5114Henry Hyde
ParticipantI’ve noticed that the ‘time of last post’ shown on the right hand side of the forum lists is often completely wrong. Also, I’m not sure I like this feature because it can make it look as though some parts of the forum are stone dead and not worth posting to, rather than encouraging people to get involved.
Secondly, I too have had odd occasions where I’ve spent several minutes typing a post, only to have it vanish into thin air when I hit “Submit”.

ParticipantMy first post (to the clubs board) seems to have vanished\not submitted. It did have three URL’s in it and the main body was copied from an existing post on another forum, so did have some carried over formatting, but it appeared well formed with closing tags etc.
Browser is Chrome, and was logged in via main page.
Hitting ‘Submit’ sent me to a reply page for the topic, so is it in limbo somewhere?

ParticipantHave managed to make my topic disappear again (multiple times), think I’ve found the cause.
I switched to IE from Chrome and copied and pasted just the text of my post with no links\formatting etc. This saved and started the topic successfully, it was fully visible in the list in the ‘clubs’ section.
I then edited to add an hyperlink in, and this saved and updated fine. I then added further links and like magic the entire topic disappeared. Have managed to repeat it once again and the offending link is a particularly long one to Google Maps. The text of the link is below, I suspect the comma’s might be to blame.
The following might also be of interest as the invisible topics appear to still exist in the aether somewhere. This one includes a reply I made!

ParticipantDidn’t realise the link would display! Else would have been more careful.
But at least we know an address on it’s own will display fine, but if wrapped in a link it can cause disappearances.

ParticipantThanks for reviving the post, will add the links (carefully) as a separate post on thread.

ParticipantMike – it’s happened again. Just replied to a post on the Napoleonics board in reply to Jonathan Reinhart’s question and my reply has vanished – annoying as it took quite a while to compose.

An old blogging trick I always copy long posts before I post them, it reduces the frustration.

ParticipantConfirming: I saw Iannick’s post a few minutes after he made it; it’s still showing that it is the most recent under “Freshness;” but it’s not there any more when you go to the thread.

ParticipantHi Mike,
I had a similar problem to Ferbs earlier today. I could post to every board except the Napoleonic sub-board. It said “you need to be logged in to be able to reply” and “you need to be logged in to post new topics”, even though I was clearly logged in, and was able to post to other boards.
I was about to e-mail you when I checked back and all was fine. Weird. Anyway, keep up the good work.

ParticipantMike, yeah I reposted it, but without all the links and it worked. Seems to have issues with multiple links!

ParticipantI had the same problem with a post with multiple links. It kept disappearing every time I hit submit. Eventually I tried it with just one link and it worked fine.
