Not number of figures, but what they represent.

I know Strike Legion did this a bit with one of their books.
Have anyone else done something where troop stands are battalions or above?

    I’m…err…asking for a friend 🙂

Planetary Operations from the Strike Legion line is what you mention – one stand is a company, three to five stands is a battalion. Typical tabletop force is a brigade to a division.

It’s a nice set of rules, and I’m dual-basing my forces for a 3mm scale set so I can play that way. It’s my current go-to.

I think FFT3 plays roughly the same level, maybe a step down, with stands equaling something like a platoon. It does have design rules though do you could mod it for Sci Fi if you put your mind to it.

Future War Commander is scale-independent, too, so it would do what you’re looking for, albeit with a tad more abstraction and randomness, which isn’t for everyone.

Sounds like your ‘friend’ wants a Sci-fi version of Megablitz.

At that scale I’m not sure you’d need much conversion, just add some rules for unit types not already covered?

    Appreciate the suggestions folks.

Mega blitz is probably the closest yeah.

I suppose it all depends on your idea of “really big”.

The biggest I’ve seen was SPI’s “Outreach”, where each hex was about 1200 light years across.

Prior to that I’d thought StarForce Alpha Centauri was quite grand in conception, with one light-year hexes.

    All the best,

    John.

A little bit less big than that! 🙂

Fifth Frontier War – but that’s counter based at one hex to the parsec. Go  The Duke of Regina’s Own Huscarles!

I love the idea of a hex three-and-a-bit light years across counting as “a little less big”.

You may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.

    All the best,

    John.

Yeah, once you leave planetside, “scale” gets a whole new meaning 🙂
