    Hi all!

    A buddy of mine needs some 28mm Prussian cavalry (Uhlans and/or Dragoons) suitable for use in some Napoleonic wargaming circa 1813-1815.  He’s having trouble tracking down manufacturers for this.  The kicker is he really would prefer for the minis to be in plastic instead of metal.  I already checked the Perry’s, Victrix, HaT, and Warlord.  None of them have the desired Prussian cavalry in plastic.
    Do any of you have recommendations?  If so could you please say who the manufacturer is, whether it is plastic or metal, and a suggestion as to where they could be obtained.  Both my friend and I live in the US so using a US distributor/retailer would be a bonus but ordering from overseas would be fine too.

    Thank you all for your anticipated help!

    The absolute very best in 28mm Prussians, for all arms, are Calpe Miniatures. As Henry observes, no plastics are available – although some mates of mine have bodged the Perry French Hussars, using Prussian shakoes from their Infantry sets. The only real problem are the shabraques, which are completely different. Didn’t worry us though!

    My review of the Calpe Prussian Dragoons linked here:

    And some pictures of my Calpe Prussian Cav Bde. Please don’t let my painting put you off what are excellent and obsessively researched sculpts though!

    That cornflower blue really jumps off the table, Sparker! I’ve always had a soft spot for Prussian dragoons ever since I saw an article about converting them from the Airfix US  Cavalry set. That must have been in one of the old Airfix magazines or very early Military Modelling.

    Thanks Henry! Yes I like ’em too and they have fairly plain, easy to paint uniforms. And of course, since in 1815 the Prussians, for some unaccountable reason, left their Cuirassiers behind, they are all the heavy cav the Prussians had at Ligny and Waterloo…

    I was afraid of that.  So was my buddy.

    @Sparker
    I absolutely love the movement trays you have.  The wood looks incredible with a nice finish and it is a great thickness.  Did you use 40mm bases for your cavalry?

    I think my buddy may go with Old Glory 25mm because he can get 40% off their metals.

    Hi Jonathan, very kind. No my bases are 65mm wide and 55mm deep. Not sure why to be honest, it just seems a good fit for 3 x 28mm cav figures ‘stirrup to stirrup’! The movement trays are very quickly made from mdf and those pre-cut balsa wood strips you get in craft stores. I’m a gaming megalomaniac so movement trays are an absolute must for our monster games!

    I thought the movement trays come from your ‘deployed-afloat’ gaming? With 30+degree list/loll those trays are a must have and the XO would not have been happy with metal flying around the Wardroom.

    No ‘deployed afloat’ wargaming with these babies – I learnt early on not to play onboard with anything I wasn’t prepared to see trodden beneath the heels of an 8 man Support Party flailing around donning BAs!

    Yeah that would spoil the party somewhat. Still loving your pictures and the scale of games you are managing to play; that room looks well lit giving opportunities for some great camera work.

    Thanks mate! Well if you ever get deployed to SE Australia you know you’ve got a roof over your head for your station leave and I daresay they’ll be lots of Aussie wargamers lining up to play the reknowned Royal!
