    Hi,

inspired by several posts I have finally decided to create my own sci-if campaign in 15mm and create my own and my first terrain board. I already have some painted and based 15mm Ion Age Prydian retained knights so I will be launching a campaign using them. I think I will also set up a blog as well to track progress but I’ll do that at work next week. Below are some photos of the board so far. Basucally imagine an almost virgin earth like planet with only one of the continents being sparsely populated with farmsteads and a few market towns. There is the main space port in the largest market town called St. Albans. The landscape/geography is a cross between the Mekong Delta, South Wales in the UK and Cambridgeshire’s fens as they might have been prior to drainage. The land once drained makes for superb agricultural land and has the potential to a major agricultural power. However, this is starting to attract attention from the enemy (enemies of the Prydian cause and throne) as well as in-employed mercenaries, and development corporations who would want to create high intensity super farms which can bring huge profits – especially when armies need feeding when major wars breakout like that of Prydian civil wars.

The forst scenario on this board will be for a Lance of retained knights to advance up the valley, clear out the enemy forces that have established an outpost on an island and then establish their own outpost, leaving a group of 5 retained knights to man the outpost and the rest of the lance advances to the site of the next outpost. The planet, Hertford, is loosely controlled by Yordan faction (enemies and revels of Prydia) but the population barely knows much about the war going on apart from news bulletins provided by the Prydian Galactic Service, which is provided and funded by the Prydian Broadcasting Corporation.  It is an under-developed fringe planet with huge potential and is fast becoming another front line for various factions. St.Albans is growing in size and population faster than anyone can survey accurately. This brings pressures of its own.

Already I am very much enjoying creating the narrative for my own sci-go campaign. Below are photos of the board thus far. It’s very much in the roughing out stages as you can see.

The board is four foot by two foot. There will be a second board the same size that will be host to a small market town – I already have the board for this.

This board was made from odds and sods I had laying around for making terrain and basing purposes.

Cool! Ain’t polystyrene a bugger to clean up?!

Yes, yes it is a pain to clean up. But the crumbs are useful for modelling as well I think. Once you’ve done the carving and sealed it and tidied up it’s all good. Plus it’s really easy to work with.

Fair play, I hope you get more than one use out of it.
I seem to make a make a habit of making nice terrain pieces (imo) and then only using them once!

Have you stuck it some MDF or something?

Good start!  I too have a bunch of Ion Age figs I need to get to.  Keep us posted, maybe help me work up the motivation!

Thanks guys. I have started a blog to set the scene and record all progress.

I have the start of a campaign planned around using this board so it will be used several times. It will then be re-purposed as the campaign grows on this one planet. There will be lots of things happening up-valley!

There will also eventually be a second 4×2 board representing the nearest market town where the campaign will sometimes end up in.

The board is now has filler all over it and is drying. The initial forces are painted and ready to go. The blog sets the scene for the first scenario.

Also, below are some photos of the forces for the first scenario. All these forces are what you get with the rules – Patrol Angis in the game pack. You can find the game pack here:

So I was having a clear out at the weekend and found a single sprue of two Games Workshop space marines. A friend gave these to me a couple of years ago I think to try and tempt me and we’re put in the back of one of my Wargames draws. Upon re-discovering them at the weekend I thought I would build them, paint them and re-purpose them as ancient machine gods that will feature in a later scenario!

I’ve used 40K Terminator marines as giant walkers in 6mm games before 🙂

Wow that must have looked quite impressive against the 6mm figures, vehicles and terrain!

Yes, there will definitely be a sudden and unexpected Shi’a Khan incursion at some point on Hertford Prime. Something I definitely want to game.

    Prydian Intelligence Services Dispatch (PISD).

    Hertford Prime Update

The Prydian expeditionary force recently established at outpost Ajax, has recently received re-enforcements to their force pool to ensure swift victories are wrought with minimal losses. The forces landed at out post Ajax include a group of valiant female Retained Knights and a brand new Espaten weapons platform with its honourable crew compliment of two Retained Knight specialist gunners.

The commander, Edward De Humphrey commented whilst overseeing the unloading of the Espaten as well as essential war material that “these additional forces are a welcome compliment to our burgeoning forces that will allow us to restore proper Prydian law and order and Prydian protection over all settlements and citizens. We must end enemy operations here and the ensuing anarchy the war has brought here, as soon as possible. Our victories will be swift”.

It is believed that open combat could break out any moment now on Hertford Prime on the northern continent as both sides continue to build up forces and supplies and establish forward operating bases.

Great report!  I appreciate that you withdrew after taking loses voluntarily, rather than pressing forwards till all were blasted or waiting for a moral roll.  It’s a rarity.  Most choose to squander their forces in wholesale slaughter just to win as it’s “just a game”…

Thanks very much Darkest Star! I looked at the remaining Prydian forces at the start of the next turn and the fighting withdrawal of the Yordan forces up the valley being covered by a lot of heavy weapons and thought no sane platoon commander would ever commit their reserve and push all ttheir remaining forces further up the valley and deeper into the ambush. It would have taken several moves and ranged combat is deadly in Patrol Angis particularly if you remain still and use precise ranged fire 🔥!

    Very good.

I finally have my Ion age campaign (Stanford Prime) being finalised,  something I started back when I playtested Patrol Angis but was delayed for several reasons. I recently picked up a few other orders from Gavin and the team that are on the painting desk (a long with some home made scenery).

Thanks Alex, yeah it was very intense. I am going to re-play the first scenario using the full rules as after just one quick play through on a Sunday evening I have got it sorted in my head hoe they work! Will probably do that this coming weekend and post up a report after. Then the campaign will continue proper 😊
