I’ve just finished reading this new book by Simon Elliott covering the incomplete Roman invasion of Britain and its occupation through to the 5th century AD.
If you would like to see my thoughts on this interesting and enjoyable read then just follow the link to JJ’s.

Great review, thanks! Makes me want to pick this up, but not having maps is not just regretful but almost criminal.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
I am reading this now, thanks to your recommendation! Quite good!
We get slapped around, but we have a good time!

The combination of an extremely well written and compelling review, together with the instant gratification of an ebook is hard to resist!
At the other end of the spectrum, remember when history books not only had maps, but at the back with an engineer’s fold so that you could unfold the map and leave it out to refer to while you read? No need to have a bookmark, or leave your finger at the map page.
Hi chaps,
Thanks for your comments.
I felt I had to make a comment, yet again sadly, in the hope that future tomes from various military publishers will deal with this common issue, which I was slightly reluctant to do as I enjoyed the read and wouldn’t want to put anyone off from what is a very interesting book and a solid modern reference that I will no doubt pop back to when out on my explorations in the country.
Cheers
JJ

The lack of good maps is an issue, you’re not the only reviewer to comment on the matter.
