I’ve started scratch building / model bashing a 1/2400th scale ocean going monitor for my French fleet. If it all goes to plan (big if?) then I hope to get it finished by the end of the week.

Looks like you are doing a fine job, I’m eager to see how it turns out.05/09/2018 at 06:56 #98569McKinstryParticipant
Very cool. One of my favorite ACW ships even if they built her with green wood. I’m looking forward to the finished product (and in my favorite scale for that period as well!!!!).

I’ll do my best!
I’ve already cannibalized a Tumbling Dice model of Gloire for the main and mizzen masts, so that my model will match the other ships in the fleet.
It will also speed up the rest of the scratch building, as I won’t have to faff about making masts out of brass wire and other bits and bobs.

I noticed in the photos that the jib boom on the main mast was too high, so I’ve lowered it down a bit to match the mizzen mast height.08/09/2018 at 13:31 #98905
All finished now, except for undercoating and painting in French colours:
