The small ships were out on the table this weekend at the Devon Wargames Group as we got to grips with three historical scenarios from the first year of the French Revolutionary War.
These actions are all based on the accounts given in William James’ history using the details therein to try and capture the individual situations and setups.

Fantastic looking game, thanks for posting JJ.
Sounds like good times had on all 3 games. Seems the old Tri-color just can’t get a break…

I like these small ship fights. seems like a lot more maneuvering than the line of battle stuff.
Hi Chaps,
Thanks for your comments. We had a lot of fun working up these scenarios and its great to bring some of the history in James’ accounts to the table.
Cheers

Like T said, I prefer my games to have plenty of maneuver and your scenarios really do that. I especially liked that you had to identify/spot the enemy before firing. It must have been frustrating for the French to not be able to see their opponent in the night to fire back, but also added a layer of realism that I appreciate.
Real good stuff!
