The effort paid off I’d say, the Wraithguard look great!

24/09/2017 at 10:53 #72257MikeKeymaster26/09/2017 at 14:47 #72418Evil DaveParticipantI make the base tops out of evergreen plastic sidewalk tiles, score down the lines a few times at the sizes I want and then break them off. I then put 10ish in a stack and drill 1/4″ holes through them so the figure bases sit level with the top. I use sticky-back magnetic material as the bottom. Everything’s then covered with fine terrarium sand over primer/glue mix. Once dry, I drop watered-down white glue over it again to lock it in. The bigger rocks I glue on with superglue.
27/09/2017 at 13:13 #72490Evil DaveParticipantAnd they’re done. The last six stands took another two hours to highlight last night. They’ll be fun to play with but I’m glad they’re off the table. I started converting their big brothers after that, they, the Phoenix or objectives is what I’ll be working on in these next weeks.
I also hit all the tanks I’ve painted to date with a gloss coat. I’m looking to print some decals out for them today, getting those on is another project before Fall In.
19/10/2017 at 02:43 #74315Evil DaveParticipantI gussied up the Eldar this week for a local store’s painting competition. I got the decals on, black boxed them in, hit these guys with a few coats of dullcote and then added some grass tufts. This is six months of work to date, minus the Void Spinners which still need their guns and the treatment above. Hoping to start and finish the Wraithlords before Fall In still.
19/10/2017 at 07:50 #74322SplodParticipantFantastic! Easily one of my favourite Eldar armies out there 🙂
19/10/2017 at 09:36 #74338StroezieParticipantThat is one sweet looking army you’ve got there!
One question.
Has the dullcoat darkened your paintjobs or is it the camera acting up?
They look a lot more red in that last batch of pictures.
19/10/2017 at 11:30 #74348Evil DaveParticipantIt was the lighting and trying to color balance them on a TV. I agree they look too red, I’ll replace them with better balanced ones Monday.
23/10/2017 at 13:09 #74574Evil DaveParticipantThanks guys. I went back and tried to color adjust the pics a little better. Still not the best match, but better.
As I was finishing up my decal/dullcote/grass que I was also working on these guys. They involved a lot of cutting, pinning, plasticard and swearing at CA glue. All twelve had their arms and legs cut off. I pinned the legs after some creative bending and repositioning, and then puttied some ball and socket joints for the arms so they could be positioned any which way. The Bright Lances mounts were squares of plasticard that got some fancy cutting and filing.
The Wraithseers were even more extensive. I used two 40k Space Marine knives a piece to create their staves and arm blades. As well as some Eldar grenades and strips of plasticard for the rest of the staves and loincloths.
This was one of my favorite conversions. I was trying to make it look like he’s about to pound a vehicle or something.
22/11/2017 at 17:28 #76774Evil DaveParticipantIt’s been slow going due to some 1:1 scale projects, but I’ve made progress on the Wraithlords. Five are done, I’ve got another seven to do the orange highlights on and they’ll be good as well.
23/11/2017 at 08:09 #76787Alexander WasbergParticipantThese guys look awesome, Wraithlords are some of my favorite GW models ever.
The conversion-work on these are really something, proper impressive work there!

22/12/2017 at 12:46 #79673Evil DaveParticipantIt’s been nearly a month since I picked up a paint brush what with Thanksgiving, vacation and newer hobbies but here we are. The Wraithlords are nearly finished. The biggest thing left are the Wraithseer blades, after that it’s just touch up and basing. Hopefully I’ll get to those before EpiComp entry closes at the end of the month.
22/12/2017 at 13:34 #79675MikeKeymaster05/01/2018 at 13:16 #80887Evil DaveParticipantI meant to get these out last week, but there was much celebrating to contend with. Anyway, here’s the Epic I managed to paint in 2017. The Void Spinners were kept out as I still need to finish their array barrels. Looking at them now, I also want to go back and add one more black panel to the Scorpions and Cobras near the front of the tank. For 2018, I hope to continue with yet more orange. I may take some breaks for sanity’s sake to paint other colors though. Thankfully, the aspect warriors will help with that. Well, not the Fire Dragons. They’re jerks.
05/01/2018 at 14:58 #80900cmnashParticipantVery, very nice Dave. Consider me in jealous mode now …
.
12/01/2018 at 15:05 #81690Evil DaveParticipantThanks c.
New year, same old color. This time on aircraft though! I started the Phoenix last night, and have been prettying the Avatar up for some paint. His sword got sharpened and he’s based in such a way that I can plop him down on a Court of the Young King base when I get to it.
30/01/2018 at 14:22 #83096Evil DaveParticipantThe Phoenix needed a bit of touch up after a failed attempt of actual flight from being left on the top of my car. One’s still going to need a bit of putty and I’m going to have to figure out how to make a tail fin tip for another. Anyway, the black is done. On to the gems and weapons this week. Hopefully the orange the week after that.
30/01/2018 at 19:44 #83140Darkest Star GamesParticipantOh no! I hope their repair is speedy and successful. I do so like your scheme for this army!

30/01/2018 at 19:49 #83141MikeKeymaster09/02/2018 at 19:05 #84118Evil DaveParticipantI finished up the weapons and cockpits and got halfway through touching up and shading the orange on the Phoenix. Hoping to finish that next week and move on to their highlights.
11/02/2018 at 09:21 #84255Alexander WasbergParticipantLooking suitably epic as usual, great work!

23/02/2018 at 14:52 #85216Evil DaveParticipantThanks Alex.
I was hoping to finish the Phoenix last night but with friends coming over for dinner tonight the “other domestic duties as assigned” clause in my relationship was activated. Maybe I’ll get to them this Sunday or next Tuesday. Either way, I’m looking forward to being done with them. It’s time for something else. I did manage to get the first highlight done on most of them. Two still need a little work.
I know it’s time for something else because I’ve been wanting to work on something else. I did cheat a little bit and built a Phantom, as well as a Revenant. Their weapons are magnetised. The last Phantom is going to involve a bit more cutting in pinning as I’m hoping to put it in a running position.
02/03/2018 at 16:45 #85800Evil DaveParticipantThe Phoenix are all finished up, I got the highlights done throughout the week and also did the engine exhaust. I added a little bit of blue and white edging on engines themselves, it’s not overly noticeable though.
I magnetised the weapons in the Revenant, I need to convert up its Sonic Lances next and get going on the other three.
The second Phantom is mostly together now as well. I just need to add shoulders and finishing magnetising its weapons too.
09/03/2018 at 18:07 #86334Evil DaveParticipantI started on the objectives with the hopes of finishing them before Cold Wars next weekend. The Wraithgate is all painted up, the others need most of the bone paints still. After something Maashes Caisteal[/url] said I spit up my three objectives into four. Now I can just swap out the Wraithgate when needed, rather than having to swap it with one of my opponents.
I also got a few coats of red down on the Avatar. Hoping to have him done for Adepticon.
03/04/2018 at 14:18 #87928Evil DaveParticipantI finished these nearly three weeks ago now, but a lost memory card and card reader kept them from being posted. I stuck with bone colors for the wrathbone and warm greys for the rocks. The windows and globe looking things were a CdA violet color that I had never tried out.
I’d also like to complete some Falcons for the upcoming <abbr title=”Northeast Epic Armageddon Tournament”>NEAT</abbr>, I still need to convert turrets so I just started on the bodies.
I worked on Rangers too, painting orange on these is a real pain. I think for the Guardians I’m going to have to airbrush the orange and carefully drybrush the bases.
I took one stand nearly to completion, the weapons and cloaks need to be finished still.
05/04/2018 at 04:33 #88086Alexander WasbergParticipantIt seems to me that hard work is paying off! They are looking great, even if they aren’t all finished yet.

06/04/2018 at 18:00 #88215Evil DaveParticipantIt’ll be years before I get this all painted.
A quick update, I got the orange done on the Rangers. Hoping to tackle the helmets and weapons next week.
24/05/2018 at 17:12 #91910Evil DaveParticipantThe Rangers have been done for awhile, I needed to buy some Dullcote though before I could put the grass tufts on. Finally got around to that so here they are.
Not sure what’s next, I’m been re-basing and touching up of my Orlocks, a Man O’War Orc fleet, re-basing and basecoating Squats, or painting some Robots for half-scale TiRoBEx on my workbench right now.
24/05/2018 at 17:27 #91911MikeKeymaster24/05/2018 at 19:46 #91941Darkest Star GamesParticipantAgree with Mike, they look great!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
24/05/2018 at 20:39 #91944Evil DaveParticipantThanks guys. I used my base colors on the cloak, just highlighted it instead of drybrushing it.
05/06/2018 at 14:20 #92579Evil DaveParticipantThings have been quiet as I’ve been working on a Shadespire warband for a FLGS. They’re almost done, I’ll hopefully have pics next week. I’ve also been working on re-basing and (in a Epic related note at least) finishing up some odds and ends for my Squats. This guy is one of those, a Steel Hawk from the article in Citadel Journal 14.
I’m still thinking on the War Hawk and Land Train cars also in the article. Any thoughts for a Squat looking Void Shield generator?
05/06/2018 at 15:20 #92589Darkest Star GamesParticipantSquaaaaaats! Good to see that not everyone subscribes to their having been wiped out in a bureaucratic genocide!
Other than support I’ll probably be no help. What about pilfering something from the Dystopian Wars line? Should be able to find tons of the stuff on ebay or miniatures market.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
14/07/2018 at 14:43 #95117Evil DaveParticipantI did the black on a dozen more tank hulls, and started on most of the first highlight on all 18. These are going to be my Falcons, Fire Prisms and Night Spinners. I’m converting turrets for all of them, and looking to magnetize the Falcons and Fire Prisms.
The end goal here is a Saim-Hann army for Fall In!, it’s a lot of painting and converting though so we’ll see how I do.
20/07/2018 at 14:03 #95395Evil DaveParticipantPainting black always seems to take the longest, right up until I start painting orange… Anyway, first black highlight is done and the second has been started (outside edges and air intakes). Once I finish that I just have the corner and point highlights for it.
20/07/2018 at 15:34 #95400Darkest Star GamesParticipantLooking good! Your force is growing nicely. At this rate you’ll have a whole craftworld’s worth!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
27/07/2018 at 14:45 #95764Evil DaveParticipantI’d hope a Craftworld could muster more than these paltry 10,000 points (or something like that).
I finished the second highlight on the black this week but didn’t get much more painting in beyond that. I’d like to finish the black next week and start on the Shuriken Catapults. While I’m painting them I’m also going to paint my newly converted Void Spinner barrels and finally get those finished up.
I’m hoping that the Vypers will get the fan treatment at somepoint, until that happens though I’ll need a stand in. I cleaned, primed and basecoated these guys this week as well.
Finally, a gold star to the person who figures out what these are for. 😛
27/07/2018 at 15:42 #95765MikeKeymaster03/08/2018 at 13:23 #96206Evil DaveParticipantOrk Pole Dancing brigade, no gold star! They’re for my Spears, hoping to spray their basecoat over the weekend.
The last time the Void Spinners saw paint was July of last year, and I’ve finally got arround to making and painting the barrels for them. I wasn’t a fan of the lack of detail on the Specialist Games versions so I used some Forge World Night Spinner barrels instead. Thanks to the close-up there’s some cleanup I have to do on a few of them still, but I hope to finish them up with the Shuriken Catapults on the Falcon hulls.
Speaking of, I finished the black and started on the blue weapons. Those should finish up next week, then it’s on to the engines and cockpit glass. Then a whole lot of orange…
20/09/2018 at 12:44 #99801Evil DaveParticipantI haven’t updated in awhile as I’ve been renovating our downstairs bathroom. As that’s been wrapping up I’ve been getting some more time to paint 6mm stuff again. I’ve completed the cockpit glass, weapons and engines on the Falcon hulls. Now comes the long slog through the orange.
One hull got the first highlight. I edge highlight most of the tank, then go back and to the outside/higher edges with a lighter orange. After that I do the sharper corners lighter and finally put a dot of my lightest color right at the corner.
