For that you need a foul sorcerer, some muscle as guards, and some ruins and the like?

Basic Frostgrave is wizard, apprentice and couple of goons.

The various expantions give more options for hirelings.

Setting is the frozen ruined city of Fellstad so yes, lots of ruins, ice and snow.

Ghost Archipelago is Heritor (Big hero), Warden (less powerfull wizard than frostgrave) and some basic sailors with one or two specialists.

Setting is tropical island chain so jungle, dinosaurs and ancient tempels. Also possible small boat combat.

Terrain for both is very dense.

Also, just a heads up Frostgrave is due for a second edition next year. Mainly to bring it up to date with later releases and to tweak some of the less used spells.

    Cheers,

    Stroezie

Yeah, that’s pretty much it. TTCombat do some good fantasy terrain that would work well.

Stroezie’s covered the main points. I’ll just add that there are options for generating monsters in the ruins. The Perilous Dark supplement is due out at the end of this month. That one will address solo and co-op games of Frostgrave, where the main game is designed to be head-to-head.

We play in Sandgrave rather than Frostgrave, because I have lots of desert scenery. The snow and ice setting is not essential to the game, and I’ve seen a variety of different settings used.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You have seen through my ruse.
I am gathering info to see what I need to add to my range to offer 15mm Dustgrave/Sandgrave starter packs on my site.

I have all but the apprentice it seems. Though I may have them with a bit of creative writing!

I’ve been thinking about playing Frostgrave in 15mm, but am torn because I already have a 28mm warband for it and a lot of Wargods of Aegyptus figures plus terrain. The main thing that puts me off selling up and moving to 15mm is the lack of sufficiently distinctive wizards to represent each of the schools of magic. I’m sure they are out there, but they are not so easy to get my hands on.

    What are the 10 schools?
Sorry, I am clueless in this regards.

The schools of magic in the main rulebook are:

    Chronomancer

    Elementalist

    Enchanter

    Illusionist

    Necromancer

    Sigilist

    Soothsayer

    Summoner

    Thaumaturge

    Witch

There are other schools of magic in the supplements, I think, but that’s the core of it. If you want to see the aesthetic of them, the official figures are on the North Star website.

Steeldragon on LAF also put together a list of all the monsters needed, linked to from their post there: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=90104.0

Splintered light has a lot of great 15mm wizards to choice from. They’d look good next to the Crom’s Anvil figures.

Hi Mike, I’ve been playing FG in 15mm for a while, its a great game and cheap to do in 15mm, other than your own minis, I would look at RPE as you can buy singles and hand pick your figures to suit your warband, scenery I imagine you have covered, although you do need plenty of LOS blocking stuff or it just ends up being a ranged duel. As for enemies, any bunch of mooks will do they don’t have to actually represent what they’re called in the book, my undead stand in for loads of different things.

I would definitely download the Sellsword rules(free from Ospreys resources page) which introduce Captains, who much like your Wizard can gain XP and advance in ability.

A word of warning before you splurge on the books, a 2nd edition is due next year, though apparently this will not make the 1st ed books obsolete!

As you have mentioned you mainly solo game these days, I would suggest looking at Rangers of Shadowdeep which is in effect a RPG lite, solo version of Frostgrave, by the same author using many of the same mechanics.
