Hi, i really must make some decent fir trees, using the two lengths of wire/power drill method – i bodged some years ago, but they are real rush jobs, and annoy me to look at them.
does anyone know a good, comparatively cheap, source of the soft meal wire needed? I will only be needing maybe 20 feet of the stuff, It’s for my own collection not some big job

possibly, it’s always hard to tell – it needs to be rigid, but bendable to shape – florists wire sort of stuff
Why not just buy florists wire? I bought about 10kgs of it for my Toy Soldier business in various thicknesses – can’t remember the supplier but there are a lot about.

really? I have found it out there but in pre-cut lengths, rather than a spool or long piece – the process is quicker if you do a few feet at a time
A google search on Florist Wire will give examples of some wire reels. I think Dobbies (Garden Centre) does it and possibly Hobby Craft if either of them are close to you (UK ?).
In fact it took me a while to find it in straight lengths as I want it straight for making horse frames, ambulance cover frames, etc , etc and didn’t want it bent…
Seems to be available on spools

Soldering wires are pretty soft and you can get a nice little spool in various sizes.
Tired is enough.

Alec Tiranti copper armature wire
May be a bit pricy but it twists easily and (thicker gauges) holds shape well.
