I’m working on a set of rules for Aztec warfare. My thoughts so far are on my blog. If you are interested in the subject here is the link.

Quite refreshing to hear your thoughts about attempting to replicate Aztec warfare, as opposed to the more usual attempt to shoehorn them into European military conventions.
If I may be so bold, how were captives handled? That is, would the captor himself drag the poor soul back to camp? Would they hand them off to retainers? I’m just thinking perhaps victorious unit’s fighting power might diminish as the best fighters proudly hauled the future sacrifices away from the battle?
I do like your simple, yet different way of handling this unique warfare. I look forward to seeing your development.
Thanks very much Tony. Yeah, the shoehorning was what I wanted to avoid. I’ve tried before and it ultimately disappoints.
That is an interesting question and I don’t know the answer. It might be that elite warriors could hand a captive on to a retainer. For lessor captors I’m inclined to think they might depart with their prisoner. It’s further complicated by the fact captive taking occurred during the fighting rather than after.
The encouragement is appreciated. I’m trying to nail it down step by step as I go.
