I finally got my hands on some of Vanguards new 3mm not-Space Marines. These figures are unbelievably detailed! You can even see the teeth on the chainsaws, ferchrissakes! Anyhow, here’s my first go at them:

And for those of you who wonder how these new figs scale with O8’s not-Eldar range, quite well, as it turns out!

Epic 6mm gamers don’t have tiny squat (hahahaha!) on your force!

Look good, both sides.  Now you just need some Tou and Urks…

Nice brush work! Are they based for EA or another rule system?

I’m not a sci-fi gamer but good looking armies such as that might make me change my mind. What rules are you using?

I am using EA rules, the Horus Heresy variant.

Are your bases 20mm for infantry and 40mm for vehicles? What is your mat made out of? They look great!

The bases are wargame standard counter size for infantry (13mm x 13mm), just to tweak with those who say “3mm? You might as well use counters!”

Vehicle bases vary by vehicle size. The smallest is 20 x 25mm. I like to keep a 5mm fringe around the casting.

The mat is a failed experiment. It is a PVA yoga mat piece painted and then flocked with Woodland Scenics gold flocking and static grass. It warped due to the glue, but I keep it around for photo shoots. I used what I learned making it to make a canvas gaming mat that I use for game play. It looks about the same.

The entire First Company with a tank platoon in support. I still have to base the Vindicators.

The titan is really nice. Is it from Onslaught?

Also are the decal from DP9? You seem to have a lot of these do they sell them separately?

The titan is from Vanguard and the decals are indeed from DP9, leftover from a project I did almost a decade ago.

Thanks, Alex! Here’s the first miniature of the opposing loyalist force. Not very original or outstanding, I know, but I want to get two armies on the table ASAP. Later, I’ll paint up a really different and outré force. Or just some Angry Marines… 😉

A combined Astartes Catamenstrui and Triquertrit Craftworld jetbike pack. O8 and Vanguard jetbikes in comparison. Obviously compatable, even if the Eldar are riding Asian imports.

    3mm miniatures!?

…is it 3mm at eye level, or heroic 3mm?

Seriously, congratulations, I didn’ t think such a size would look so good.

Actually, it is true scale 3mm, but becuse these are spess mahrines, they are a bit over 4mm in height. And, of course, the titans are more like 30mm in height. Take off the top hatches and they could be 28mm guardbots.

Actually, it is true scale 3mm, Patrice, but because these are spess mahrines, they are around 4mm in height, base to eye. The vehicles are also much bigger than O8’s stuff, which is much more true scale. And, of course, the titans are more like 30mm in height. Take off the top hatches and they could be 28mm guardbots.

Here’s a comparison shot with O8, Blue Moon, and Plasmablast figures next to Vanguard’s 3mm stuff.

As you can see, the infantry scales quite nicely, even if the O8 stuff is a tad bigger and less delicate. O8’s vehicles are very undersized compared to Vanguard’s, however (although O8’s not-Elder scale fine).

Plasmablast’s 6mm tanks make cracking 3mm superheavy subsitutes and Blue Moon’s Robot Legion walker from it’s 15mm sci-fi line makes a nice heavy Titan.

Now that Adeptus Titanicus is out are you considering getting some of the knights to use as Titans? Also what about Wamachine’s warjacks? I don’t know don’t own any, just wondering if they’ll fit in with 3mm.

I think the Warjacks look too archaic to mix well with Vanguard’s stuff. Maybe as Skinner titans, though. As for GW’s knights… 35 bucks for three? No thanks. At that price I can buy Infinity stuff as titan stand ins.
