Over the past week or so I have been dabbling with Squad Hammer, and have written up some of my games on my blog. Since reports of games are sparse on the ‘net I thought I’d share them here as well.

I used my Epic 40K figures, which are based as 40mm frontage elements because I use them for ‘Hordes of the Things’.ย  Each stand works OK as a squad for the purposes of the game. I reduced all distances by half, though.

Here’s a report of my first couple of games:

Having learned lessons on squad design from the first few games, I had another go, this time adding in some tanks.

The game with tanks went pretty well, but I felt that maybe my playing area was a little large, so I tried some games in a smaller space and with smaller terrain pieces as well. These were much more successful.

To be fair I’m not really a toolkit rules kind of person; I like my rules clearly defined and, although I don’t mind tweaking rules or even writing my own, I prefer someone to tell me how I should be playing my games ๐Ÿ™‚ However I enjoyed tinkering with Squad Hammer, and I’m sure I’ll have a tight version for use with my figures at some stage. However I’ve now got hold of Trench Hammer, which is a much tighter setting, and will be giving that a go fairly soon.

Sometimes it’s interesting to hear how people react when they are exposed to a game they wouldn’t typically play at all.

    Appreciate you sharing!

Kaptain, I’ve been rereading your squad hammer AARs over the last week ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve really enjoyed reading them and admiring the pictures. Thank you for making them!

    Richmond, VA. Let's play!

Looks great! Late to the party again but I am doing some consulting on the side eating up my hobby time.

let us know how you get on with Trench Hammer. ย I still owe Kyote a video.
