ParticipantI bought West Germans today at Game HQ. 1 box of Team Muller which has 5 leopard 2’s and 2 Choppers 2 boxes of Marders each box has 5 Marders and 2 boxes of Gepards with 2 per box and some AA troops. No PanzerGrenadiers as BF didn’t make enough….damn it!!!! But I do have them on back order…
Maybe I’ll have better luck with West Germans than I did with Americans fighting the Soviet hordes !!! I really was trying to win Just Jack….01/08/2016 at 11:41 #45704Rod Robertson

Kapitalistische kriegstreiber schoßhund der Westlichen imperialismus! Now that you have finally freed yourself from your addiction to the decadent and corrupt American military-industrial-complex you have instead hitched yourself to the grandchildren of the fascist devils who tried to destroy the Rodina Mat just 75 years ago! You are a traitor to Russia, to Socialism, to the Revolution and to all of humanity! What’s your next project? The Tartar hordes, die Schwertbruder, the Swedes of Charles XII? This time you have gone too far!

More BAOR-ish behaviour I see. Chieftains and FV-432’s or Challies and Warriors?
Cheers.
Comrade Red.
02/08/2016 at 00:56 #45730kyoteblue
ParticipantI think the Chieftains and FV-432’s…but I could be wrong….

ParticipantGot the Gapards out of the boxes…now sitting on my hobby desk….They are metal and resin and look good…. the gun barrels look flimsy kinda dreading that…..
07/08/2016 at 04:44 #46024kyoteblue
ParticipantThe barrels are not as straight as I would like, but not as hopelessly bent.

ParticipantStraight, bent; it’s a new, more inclusive world, Kyoteblue. Get over it!

ParticipantSounds like a good haul! What mark are the L2s? I am tempted by the L1s they are putting out (some sort of nostalgia nagging at me, probably ahs to do with Transformers… lol!) How do teh plastic models look?

09/08/2016 at 19:16 #46191kyoteblue
ParticipantI don’t know which mark the Leo 2 are, sorry. All the plastic kit (Leo 2 and Marders ) are great, easy to build and tight fits. I wish BF would go to all plastic for their models.
13/08/2016 at 06:14 #46434kyoteblue
ParticipantI put aside the Gepards to work on the Leopard 2s much smoother builds.
15/08/2016 at 01:13 #46574kyoteblue
ParticipantGot to game today, I was Soviets facing West Germans Oh boy I had my Soviet ass handed to me, between the Leo 2’s and swarm of Jaguars and Leo 1’s I just could not kill them fast enough to keep them off of my objectives…it was 6-0 for the West Germans on turn 3.
I did get to pick up my Fast Food joint aka McDonald building the 3 Panzergrenadier Zug’s (another US Mech Platoon) and the Jaguar Jagdpanzer Zug. for my West Germans. Still need 2 more Gepards to round the force out.
Looking forward to our next campaign this Fall.15/08/2016 at 04:21 #46588Rod Robertson

Bummer on the loss Comrade Dude. Get the German fascists next time or the GRU will begin an investigation. You don’t want an investigation!

ParticipantAre there any pictures of these campaign games – I know next to nothing about Team Yankee and I am just curious that’s all.
15/08/2016 at 07:04 #46594kyoteblue
ParticipantI am very very old and have not yet figured out how to post pictures here, how ever I do have some on my Facebook account that you can view. I am the only Jonathan Keepers in Oklahoma on Facebook. Or some times kind souls post them here for me. Sorry.
15/08/2016 at 20:39 #46625PaintingLittleSoldiers
ParticipantOk thanks. I do not get a chance to play that often so just look at other games like a child at a candy shop window !

ParticipantJackson:
Don’t be a spectator, jump in! FOW is so widespread that you can likely find players near to you. Ask to play a game or two with experienced players and then you can better make up your mind. You may find you like it or it may be a bust. But at least you’ll know for sure! Entitle yourself to a little enjoyment and give it a try.
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantI posted some more pics of my Team Mueller loot on Facebook so if some kind soul wants to link to them here I would be most grateful.
16/08/2016 at 02:04 #46637PaintingLittleSoldiers
ParticipantSorry Rod, I meant internet spectator. I have plenty of people to play in various games but time is my limiting factor (kids, work, animals care etc etc) so I just content myself with pictures of other peoples toys until I get to play

ParticipantJackson:
That’s a bummer. Perhaps I overstep my bounds but, “Carpe Diem”! If one waits too long to play, one’s life becomes just grey. Find the time and live a little. The cemeteries are full of indispensable people who could never be replaced. But life goes on. As you serve your family, so must you sometimes serve yourself, for you too are part of that family. Make some time to game, it’s a matter of will! You deserve it!
I hope you fing your gaming bliss, at least in some small measure.
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantKyoteblue and Darkest Star:
From the model piccies Kyoteblue posted on FB, the Leopard II looks like a model A1 or A2. It looks like a nice little kit. How many do you get in a box?
Cheers and good gaming.

17/08/2016 at 01:55 #46690kyoteblue
ParticipantYou get 5 Leo 2’s and 2 of the West German Choppers in the Team Mueller army box for around 80.00. I don’t know for sure if it’s the A1 or A2 sorry.
17/08/2016 at 03:28 #46695Rod Robertson
ParticipantKyoteblue:
The Leopard looks good! But Crikey! $ 80.00 US for seven tiny plastic models, that’s nuts! I remember buying my first Tamiya 1/35 scale model for $ 8.99 CAN in 1971! It was a German StuG III. That model is now over $ 50.00 here. The times they are a changing! The price of minis and models has sky-rocketed in the last fifteen years. This is fast becoming a rich man’s hobby and I ain’t rich! But, come the revolution …..
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantKyoteblue:
I just finished assembling three BTR-60PB’s and have nine more to go! They’re the 15mm ones from Khurasan Miniatures and they’re really nice little models. These minis have 23 parts each and most are tiny but man do they look good when they’re fully assembled. When they are finished it’s on to a dozen BMP-1’s, and four more T-64’s. The 15mm Soviets are shaping up nicely. But before I prime and paint them I have promised myself that I will complete a full company of MRR infantry! I have so much painting to do and so little impetus to do it these days. I gotta get my painting mojo back! So get those Leo’s painted and inspire me to get off my duff!
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantLOL OK…Oh and what rules are you going to use ????
17/08/2016 at 05:59 #46706Rod Robertson
ParticipantKyoteblue:
I’m not entirely sure which rules to use. For smaller games I was thinking about Force on Force by Ambush Alley Games. These are the rules which I have been trying to get my head around for Ultramodern skirmish battles. For bigger games I was thinking about adapting the old Challenger rules by Bruce Rea-Taylor. I also am waiting to see what Too Fat Lardies will come up with in their “I Ain’t Been Nuked Mum” modern spin-off. My infantry will be mounted singly or as Hvy Wpn teams so FOW/Team Yankee is out. Do you have any suggestions? I want figures and models to represent themselves, so a 1:1 scale. The level of the games I want to play are, at most, a mechanized company reinforced by a platoon of tanks vs. a reinforced platoon. At the smaller end, meeting engagements of troop or platoon sized units, Recce skirmishes or ambushes of reinforced squads vs platoons.
Cheers and good gaming.

ParticipantOther than Nordic Weasel Games I don’t know of any 1:1 game rules as I like to play at reinforced company level. Sorry oh eh…..
23/08/2016 at 15:40 #47246cmnash
ParticipantNo End in Sight are Nordic Weasel’s platoon level rules; the first lines in the rules are:
“In this game, you will find rules for playing cold war and contemporary military engagements at the platoon level, along with suggestions for campaigns, solo gaming and a scenario generator.”
I’ve not played them though, so can’t personally recommend them. A bit of google-fu found these reviews:
http://shelldrakewargames.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/new-rules-no-end-in-sight.html
http://fantalonia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/solo-play-review-no-end-in-sight.html
hope that helps!

ParticipantColin Nash:
NEIS is a good gaming system and can generate exciting small scale battles but it starts to become cumbersome at platoon level or above. I have played it four times now with Ultramodern forces and it produced some interesting games once I had learned the mechanics and figured out how to manage the rules efficiently. Thanks for the reviews. I will read them tonight!
Kyoteblue:
The Warstore is having a special on Leopard II Zug boxes. Five tanks for $ 40.00 USD. I know you want more Leo’s so here’s your chance.
Cheers and good gaming gents.

ParticipantLOL…There are two other gamers locally who have West Germans, one of then can’t make next Sundays game so I have to speed up my assembly line so as to have enough models to make a good game of it.

ParticipantDue to gamer melt down my West Germans didn’t get to play their first game yesterday. So I’m busy building more West Germans I have 3 Jaguars built and 7 more Marders and the 2 Choppers out of the original buy. There is another box of Gepard’s and a Roland Flak battery waiting for me at my FLGS and a box of the BF river bends. I’m toying with the idea of getting another Team Mueller box with would give me 5 more Leo 2s and 2 more choppers….I think that would be it for my West Germans…I could buy more but want to save some money back for the Brits….

ParticipantRe the mark of Leopard 2:
There are very, very few visual recognition differences between the Leopard 2A0, 2A1, 2A2, 2A3 and 2A4, so the kit is good for any of the above.
While the 2A4 had improved turret armour compared to earlier versions, that was mainly about a change in materials and didn’t result in any visual differences. IIRC, the only noticeable visual alteration in the series was a change in the stowage location for the tow-cable with the 2A3.
As I understand it, the Team Yankee game is set in 1985? If that’s the case, that pretty much rules out the 2A4, which only entered production in that year and first appeared in exercises in Jan ’86. The Leopard 2A0s had been converted to 2A1 standard by 1985 (being re-designated Leopard 2A2).

ParticipantI got to play with my West Germans today, they held out and if fact kicked Soviet butt !!!!Really like the way they play and Gapareds kill Hinds !!! I’m setting up my garage table to try out the 3 scenarios from Leopard to try them out. I got a Roland battery today and will most likely get another Team Mueller box set to round out my West Germans.
